Hey Bob, have a great time. Try to stay away from the rt.7 corridor this is the worst time of the year to travel on it. Take a scenic drive up rt.8 to rt.143 to rt 112 to Rt.9 west to Pittsfield. That's a beautiful ride and you'll be in my neck of the woods.

Is that in ny? I think we are heading out the pike into ny and than n to get to jiminy.

Food will be left in the cars at all times.

Nice drive this am. Foggy but burning off now. Looks like a spledid day to do nothing but veg with the fam at the pool. Tomorrow will be busy day.

No, RT.7 runs up the gut of Berkshire county. Sounds like you are approaching Jiminy from the west side. That route will be better than Rt.7 through Pittsfield but less direct. Both routes are the most populated corridors in Wma and far Eastern NY. If you want to get a look at the real GC you could leave Jiminy head east to the spine of the Berks and tac your way back south along the spine. It'll take longer but it's more representative of the terrain and atmosphere of the Berks. The main drags are a drag. Either way I'm sure you'll have an awesome time, the weather looks nice. It's no joke about the bears. It's not like they are out for human flesh but a bear trashing the camp site at 3 am might be more excitement than you really want. They are definitely out and about. Pic from last year or the year before.

Speaking of bears, a friend recently had their chicken coop broken into at dawn one morning by two bears...chickens escaped and noise woke his family up so they scared the bears off with baseball bats on metal trash can lids. Then at dusk the bears returned and completely obliterated the structure and killed a couple chickens after their failure that morning.

I grew up skiing at Jiminy...nice mountain for the Berks. I think it's probably got the most vertical drop and steepest terrain in the area. Loved our local night skiing program with our town...Sunday nights all through middle and high school we were out there causing trouble ;)

We didn't raise any chickens this year after doing so the last two. It would have been a great relief had something come and taken them out. They're a pain in the ass.

LOL...I'm surprised its not more common, bear attacks that is. I'd think chickens would be a very easy meal for them as long as no humans get involved.

Pureed Habaneros in lemon juice and vinegar, loaded up into a big super soaker. Trip wires with bells for detection.

Berkshire East takes that prize. Catamount's 'Catapult' is also steep. Jiminy has been ruined.

I'm even more suprised that coyotes didn't take them out. It's not like the ramshackle coop was sturdy--kept them in , but anything could have knocked it over. Our neighbors lost many to a mink--didn't realize they were chicken eaters.
