CoastalWx
But in Kevin's defense....it will depend on strength and track. The GFS would argue for temps like 5 degrees warmer.

HoarfrostHubb
Morning low of 35° F here this morning after a nice, brisk day yesterday. Anyone remember what today is? The anniversary of 5/18/02, the latest measurable snow event ever recorded for many in W NE and E NY. I think 2K here in the Berks had 5-6" in that event and there was 2-3" in the Pittsfield area. Even Albany got 2.2" out of it. 8" was recorded in legendary Woodford, VT at 2.4K. There are more totals at http://www.cbs6alban...le-storms.shtml Just scroll down to 2002 and click on May 18. Amazing event. Very cool. I wish a BOS area station had something like that I remember that event. I also watched a videotaped town meeting (or something) on a cable access channel about a year later with the May 18 date and moderate snow falling outside the windows of the town building... I'm really surprised a BOS station doesn't have something like that... I love the Channel 6 website (Albany area). I've been using that for years and years to relive old storms. May 18th, 2002... I'm looking for the pictures, but I went Cross Country Skiing at Thatcher State Park in Albany County with 6-8" up there at 1,000-1,300ft. Plows were out and everything... just amazing. Had over 3" at my house in the valley and ALB with 2.2". Lost a pear tree and a lot of evergreen branches at my childhood house. I'll never forget waking up and looking out to see it just pounding heavy wet snow.
Typhoon Tip
This is impressive to those who understand the implication .... That, ...is a near perfect fit for that, ...and it signals GIANT heat... real bad actually should we time a Sonora region air layer get released... CoastalWx
Euro would be epic NW flow MCS possibility too.
forkyfork
hopefully we can hold on to the idea of a very amplified ridge just to our west and maintain that NW flow
Typhoon Tip
Yeah it's been a while since we've had a real bona fide derechio. Best one recall came down in late July 1995 and swept through New England 4-7am

Typhoon Tip
Best Derecho ever might be associated with a snowstorm, Superstorm 93 into Florida That wasn't technically a derechio.... Derechios are born of MCC actiivity, where they are thermodynamically driven by instability produced nocturnally via radiative cloud-top cooling serving to perpetuate elevated (as in mid level) CAPE. They then tend to intensify along the noses of a mid level jet max as they ride along the periphery of a ridge, where the latter induces an inflow jet response in the 850mb level. That deal down in Florida was baroclinically derived. Just FYI -
Typhoon Tip
GFS looked good for nw flow events. Take a look at the sfc synoptic charts and the QPF distribution around the "ring of fire" northern periphery of the GFS's evolving ridge D6-10 ... pretty classic pick up on back ground numerical instability in the way it generates those blobs of convention. Any one of which would love to turn right of the environmental flow and do the trick. I want overlapping strobe lightning... Been years since I've seen that.
