SNE End of May, into Summer Thread

Looking at the soundings, the GFS does have a good push of cool and drier air across SNE. Hope for that. Even though it may be overcast from mid to high level clouds, it would argue that Sunday may not be all that dank. It just concerns me that the euro looks so horrible. Euro looked better on Monday, but had NE winds.

So hopefully that front tries to push further south and give SNE a decent day one of those days. I sorta cringed when I saw lots of suns and a few raindrops Sunday/Monday on the local forecasts. Just a little concerned the days could be a little more inclement...but lets hope not!

I will say BSE though right now in Norway...it's sunny and in the low 80s, with snow capped mountains in the distance. Lakes in the higher elevations still frozen solid too...impressive for late May.

Sunsets at 11:52pm here where I am too...messes with your sleep schedule when it gets light at 3am.

lots of pissed off folks at work today saying oh the weatherman all week said this weekend would be awesome , now today they are calling for clouds rain, tstorms. WFSB is a joke but most folks around here watch the weather from them as cutesy Haney wins them over.

Looked on the radar that you were getting trounced yesterday with stationary RN+. I only got a few hundredths up here, but G'field must have gotten a ton.

I have to replace my rain guage because it got smashed 2 weeks ago but we've gotten a ton of rain.

I've been in Greenfield 5 years now and I'm starting to realize that this part of Franklin Co. is the summer equivalent of Pete's winter bonanzas. We will get downpors in this 10 mile radius (Greenfield, Montague, Leyden etc.) when no one else is getting rain. Obviously something to do with the topography and the way the Valley narrows up here surrounded by hills.

There's a monster ridge over Europe right now with 12C 850s as far north as Scandinavia. It takes a long time for the thaw in Norway though as the latitude is so high...my friend went to Hardangervidda national park (I believe) about the same time as you, and there was still snowpack and ice on the ponds and lakes. I imagine the upper ridge will do some damage in the coming week, although the developing -NAO will definitely change the pattern. 0z ECM shows -10C 850s returning to northern Scandinavia by Day 5 with a 546dm low tracking across the southern part of the region, so I'd imagine some more snow will fall in the higher terrain.

I'm hoping to make it to Scandinavia some day, especially to see the Norwegian fjords, as I've heard great things. My father also went to Stockholm for a business trip a few years ago, and he said both the city and the lakes to the north of it were spectacular. Unfortunately, it will probably be awhile since I'm starting a fellowship this summer and an expensive European vacation isn't really in the budget having worked at a small private school all year.

I remember you and Will discussing that at a get together. Dare I ask how you smashed your rain guage?

Unless the sun comes out, I think we could have a pretty big temp bust. Currently 60.4 (11:00) and a forecasted high of 72.
