that convection over rockland has slowly progressed SE and its making its way through midtown but with the flow off the atlantic bending back towards the metro, looks like a deform band sets up shop for the next hour or so. lol.

figment of your imagination bro, its not raining in nyc metro proper because we havent had 3+ hours of rain w visability under .001 miles...its actually a ncie night.

doesnt count, only rain falling in NYC proper matters.

Of course not, rain is rain regardless where it rains, but I was led into a wager and NYC is the focus. That's not to discount the more persistent rains (from last night to tonight) to the east of NYC, which was addressed this morning, by myself and others as well... I recognize this isn't a subforum for NYC alone.

Clearing skies working its way into western NJ, the push east is evident, but it appears that Nassau and especially Suffolk stay in the clouds/showers most of the day. I'd bet on clearing or at least improving skies elsewhere outside of areas south and east of the city. What transpires for later tonight with the next wave is still up for debate, but I think that slides mostly east as well by nowcasting trends.

that cell is starting to spread its wings to the western burbs of Danbury finally. but the more widespread stuff in VA looks to be heading right for the tri state overnight. and im not sure it was to be expected. upton sounded pretty pessimistic about widespread rains for tonight the past day or so.

I was mainly referring to runawayiceberglettuce's post. He stated that "the more widespread stuff in VA looks to be heading right for the tri state overnight" it's that what I took contestation of - I don't see any "widespread" rain in NYC proper happening tonight. A couple reports of light-mod rain, sure, I won't discount that, but more directly to your post, I don't think it will be 3+ continuous hours of rain. That makes it sound like a soaking any way you slice it - maybe there will be 3 hourly observation reports of rain (but not raining throughout those 3+ hours). Better to surmise how much you wager will fall? I'll call for under .25" in NYC (unless some convection gets going in the city proper, I don't see much more than that, and would not be surprised of .10" or less).

You created the entire NYC "focus" yourself, as the post you took issue with (the lame ass joke/namecalling notwithstanding) clearly stated "tri state", not NYC proper.

That's the cold front. Not so much a deform band. I don't see any returns bending back. It's still all progressing eastward. Way to get anted by hyperbole.

the rains down in VA early this evening must of scooted out to sea....I guess the moderate rain outside my window here, a good 60 miles north of the city isnt really happenning.

i really dont want to get on the guy cuz i couldnt care less about proving my point or whatever...but he came across as a big douche, tried to be funny, swore he was dead right....but turned out dead wrong.

Granted. Point taken. I'll lay off the backyard-casting and wisecracking next time (no offense was meant, sorry berg). This is looking like a Suffolk county deluge tonight, if I'm not mistaken, they also took the pot last night... 1.29" so far today at FOK, 1.23" at KISP, but about half that so far in western Suffolk .66" (so far) in KFRG.

ok. i deleted my post since you apologized so no problem man. we are cool. i was kinda vauge in my first post where i said, "widespread rains in VA looking to head directly to the tri state." im just not savvy with met terms and i hardly take the time to try to be. so maybe from your point of view, i sounded like a newbie wishcasting for rain.

anyway, LI does seem to jackpot tonight. but there is some really nice rains in SW CT now with hardly any movement to the E. next few hrs should cut into the drought, hopefully!

About 0.21" in Teterboro since yesterday evening, was a bit lower than 1/4 inch but still above 0.2". When focusing on NYC and the suburbs (including SE NY/NE NJ) there were some locally higher totals in KHPN and JFK, although in areas not affected as much by the heaviest showers, rain totals appear to have ended up close to 1/4" west of the city and close to/above 1/2 inch near and north/east of the city. Long Island and CT got soaked while NW NJ/SE NY got lighter rain as expected. I went a little low with my general totals last night (again, excluding the locally higher totals), although this definitely wasn't a bust on the low side.

What do you consider JFK? LI? Near/NE of city? They got 1.20 inches of rain from 8 pm last night on...for the day the island evened out, most areas west to east getting at least 1.25 inches throughout the day, east end got wrecked, getting between 1.5 and 2 inches
