This.

I would take evening Summer T-Storm rain over the pending forecast any day. Just not a fan of this rain.

Which is it, you want storms or you want sunshine over this rain. I mean you keep changing your tune every hour it seems.

I am reserved in the fact that we are going to be getting a good soaking rain at night tonight.

As much as I may not "be a fan" of stratiform rains like today... I'd more than willingly take one of these once or twice a month to keep the drought away. The localized nature of convection doesn't really do the trick...

I mean obviously severe storms are more fun than this but wishing for bone dry conditions over occasional boring rain is silly.

Thank you, at least we have one other person who realizes this is perfectly fine vs having a drought.

So officially, May 2012 will tie with 1896 for the 3rd warmest on record with an average of 65.3*F.

Spring 2012 will also crush Spring 2010 by 2 degrees for the warmest Spring on record, with an average of 55.1*F (also the first 55*F+ Spring average Detroit has ever had).

Why the drought worries when SEMI is only -.11 for the month of May and only - 1.00 inch for the year.

Only -.11? What numbers you looking at? 1.53 for the month at KDTW which is over 1.80 below normal for the month. Average as of this morning was 3.38

Got 0.42" of rain today at my place. Not enough but I'll take it. I live in a bit of a low spot, and, combined with the heavy clay soils, it takes a long time before it starts to look droughty around here.

At the Purdue Agronomy Farm in West Lafayette this spring was the warmest (avg. temp. of 58.2 degrees) on record and sixth driest (5.79").

Rockford broke their record low max temperature yesterday with a high of 52º (old record of 54º set back in 1903). That of course in stark contrast to just a few days ago when they broke their record max temperature on the 27th with a high of 99º (old record of 92º set back in 1978). I have to assume that hasn't happened too many times in their recorded history.

To boot, they were within one degree of each other with respect to departure relative to normal, +24 versus -25. And if you add them up and divide by two, you get what is essentially "normal" for this time of year. Heh.

May 27th: 99º (normal max temperature of 75º)

May 31st: 52º (normal max temperature of 77º)
