hope to see that film you made. We're getting it heer now in Saginaw.

Meh. I set my tripod up on the passenger seat but I didn't realize the camera was out of focus the whole time. Also, a raindrop landed on the microphone (hope it's not wrecked). Trying to film lightning is a pain. I'm not exactly a pro yet.

There was a lot of lightning flashing from side to side and inside the base of the clouds, almost like you see in cartoons. It fell apart fairly quick once it passed through. Got a nice long period of gentle rain with occasional rolling thunder in GR. Good for the garden.

Lake front just pushes through Madison, down to 56 °F. You can really see it on radar. http://tempest.aos.w...icompflash.html

The air has a marine feel/smell to it.

Yeah , the air has a notable marine smell to it. That was one of the faster moving pneumonia/lake fronts I've seen in awhile. Wow, that really pushed it's way inland! The air is not only coming off Lake Michigan, but also Lake Superior.

Here are a few shots...

I scaled them back in size, so the quality isn't as great as it should be.

Joe, nice shots. I like the way you got the light reflecting off of the cloud bases.

huge day :D

Typical "See Text" day.

I think we will probably see our first 90's in LAF before the month ends.

Hawt! :sizzle:

Starting to be the time of year that i want more north wind :) Today and tomorrow look gorgeous, but the heat comes back hard Fri/Sat with temps nearing 90F by Sat...

Pull out the thongs next week...GFS has 20C 850 temps ...before crashing them to 0C!!! late next week. The heat doesn't seem to lock in around here for another month, so these hot shots should be short lived.

If you trust post 192hr output. lol. The 20C 850 temps extending over MI seems way overblown to me. I think the coarse resolution GFS fails to produce adequate cumulus mixing. That seems to be a problem with pretty much all the global models. That said, the second torch for the middle of next week looks hotter and stinkier than the one coming up this weekend. Probably higher dew points as well.

Most def looking nice en toasty and summery well into the extended. Although that laughable 0C ultra fast cool shot has about 1% chance of verifying lol.

If this May were to end now for Detroit, it would easily be the 17th warmest May on record. with a average of 62.8*.

With over 125 Mays in the weather records, that's pretty darn warm. The thing is we've generally had consistently ~+5 departures in terms of highs everday versus any impressive heat, so it may not seem as warm as the statistics suggests. On the other hand lack of days below 65*F (except the one 64*F), which Detroit can see a fair amount of in May, has played a part in keeping the departures pretty high as well.

As for the warmest spring on record, that's likely a lock for Detroit. Even if for the rest of the month after today, the maximum daily high everyday is 70*F and the low is 45*F (both of which are highly unlikely), the average for May would still be 61.5*F, and the average MAM temp would be 53.9F*, .8*F above 2010 which is currently the warmest spring on record. That March departure really did a number on the average Spring temperature, just like July did for last Summer. Even if this May just ends up as "normal" (-0.4*F below average), we'll still surpass 2010 by .1*F.

It looks like that number is only going to go up with the blowtorch this weekend and then again later next week.
