Unsettled cool weather ends April, what does May bring

Looks like the old -PNA vs -NAO battle coming up in the 1st half of May. Both are dependent on tropical forcing in a way. Regardless, more seasonable and perhaps more of a wetter pattern could develop during this time. Still some mixed signals, but some growing agreement here.

IOW a non-extreme pattern? Might be best to avoid looking at the KFS for awhile then.

-NAO vs. -PNA battles can be entertaining, especially in the winter as they often lead to gradient patterns and SWFEs. Hopefully, we'll get some nice overrunning sheet rains in such a setup as we're still in a deficit for the year and we missed out on the best of the rains from the recent nor'easter here.

Temperatures remain stuck in the upper 30s here. Incredibly cold day for late April. This type of anomaly in January would probably translate to a near 0 or even subzero afternoon max here.

LOL, yeah no extreme wx for now. I suppose if the GFS is right, could be some elevated tstms rolling through from time to time next week though. I wouldn't mind a little cooler and wetter weather. Can't really say it will be wet, other than these patterns can sometimes produce decent rains. I don't really see any imminent large storms on the horizon, however.

April turned out to be cold and snowy, AWT.

Hasn't stopped snowing in almost 7 hours now...have a whopping 0.5" at 950ft on elevated surfaces. However just up the road is a much different story.

Exciting and nice to see snow in the air. I just can't believe we won't get our of the mid 30s for afternoon highs.

I can tell it's impressively cold up high in the H85-H7 level where the orographic lift is forming the snow because snow growth is quite good. It's not needles or grauple but real upslope flakes that would be fluff in January.

Freeze not frost warning everywhere. Best not to plant before last full moon in May.

First perennial garden goes in on the 7th, I usually wait until Mother's Day, although the last two years was not an issue at all down here. Familia in philly for the weekend, roaring fire, libations and yankees baseball tonight....oh yeah.

By the way who said 70 fri - sun??

Warm out east on the west wind, nice!

It is coming down right now... suns out to the east though, haha. It must be cold aloft for this type of consistent flake and snow down under 1K ft this time of year. Still cant get more than a white coating on some surfaces.

Yeah I'm headed back to ct for the weekend and when I left it was 33 and spitting flakes.

South of st j it was classic down sloping with CAA as the sun popped in and out with nice snow shafts to the west and east in the greens and whites. Beautiful. Now down in the Brattleboro area and it's 47 and mostly cloudy.

32 now at LSC with flurries. Awesome.

SW CT is in another growth zone, perhaps better suited to the MA growth zone, enjoy.
