Potential late season snow event for western NY and PA

Recommended Posts

Awesome pics dude just awesome. Makes it a little less painful seeing areas not too far away cashing in well. Can't wait till I move to Orchard Park next month. Should be awesome to be so close to the Boston Hills for a short drive during these elvation dependent snow events. And from the sound of it , it seems like even OP itself is getting hit pretty good, they cancelled all evening activites. But I love these elevation driven events that we see here because it is so awesome like you said to see that just going up or down 50 to 100 feet can mean the difference between a half inch of slop and 2-3" of snow. Just incredible. Thanks for sharing!

No Problem! I will most likely be going out again soon to take some more. Hopefully later tonight. Want to head down to the hills of Colden, I believe they have to be near 7 inches by now in the highest hills. Its only a 15 minute drive as well. I do believe the Hills around Mayville/Perrysburg will be around 12-15 inch range when all is said and done. However, that's a 30 minute drive and don't feel like going that far haha!

Awesome dude! Colden looks like a great spot. Sherman/Mayville/ just west of Jamestown looks to be getting crushed but thats a pretty far drive. Don't know how well Perrysburg itself would be as they seem to be in a snowhole which is unusual for them. The winners in this will likley be just west of Jamestown. Colden looks nice though too. Try hitting up Cole road near Wohlhueter road if you got a GPS as I know that area is around/above 1600 feet and always has the most snow out of alot of places in the Boston Hills. If you feel like taking a little further drive try hitting up Gennesee Road near Transit Line Road just NW of Springville, they ALWAYS get dumped on. Thanks for sharing the pics again man, makes me want to get a place above 1600 feet so bad.

That's very close to where my cousins live ..maybe 7-8 miles north of them as the crow flies, but it may be a bit lower than their 2300'. They're on a hill slightly south of the village of Andover. The university there in particular is a beautiful place

Also my late aunt used to live in Wellsvile so been going to that area since the 70's when I was a little kid.

My brother goes to Alfred State in Alfred, NY, I'm wondering how they did down there. I'm waiting for him to give me a call back. There was a spotter report of 6" there at 7am this morning.

Buffaloweather, you're in jamestown, correct?

How is it down there?

Buffaloweather is Richard and hes in Hamburg, your thinking of WNYLakeEffect and hes in Lakewood just west of Jamestown, hes gotta be piling up the snow although heres a webcam in Lakewood just west of Jamestown where that band has been sitting for the past several hours. This is right near Chataqua lake though I think so its several hundred feet lower than the surrounding hills. Give it a minute to load up...

My grandparents used to live just on the other side of that hill. On Fulmer valley rd

Actually that high temperature was for this morning before the rain started. Temperatures are now falling--currently 38 at YYZ (Pearson Airport) and 39 in downtown Toronto. I don't know why Environment Canada did not mention the falling temps through the afternoon hours. For tonight, I'm expecting a slushy coating to an inch in the downtown core (north of Queen St.), 1-2" midtown/highway 401 and close to 2-3" north of Steeles Ave.

what's going on in newmarket/aurora/georgina/brock right now? the compass cams only go as for north as the etr.

and yea from what i'm seeing as well as the latest numbers, i'd say 2-4 cms downtown/toronto island, 4-6 cms highway 401, maybe a 6-9cm count north of highway 7, all real sloppy and slushy.

it doesn't help to track the progress of all of this though with the King City Doppler down (is it dual or no) and the big band starting to hook up off of georgian bay.

I talked to my brother in Alfred he said it was somewhere over 6" but less than a foot.

Richard go to this link and click on Colden, they got a live webcam there and it looks pretty damn snowy.

=0! That is a very tempting drive. I was just out in Colden, had like 3-4 inches. The most was at the tops of Boston HIlls though. Any dip in elevation caused huge variation in snow amounts. My wife is going to class soon though (If not canceled) So might have to postpone til later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Alleghany county has a elevation over 2k doesn't it? I still think the Chautauqua ridge will be the winners in this event. (they always are) =P

Someone on the WIVB blog about 8 miles south of the Erie county border in north central Catt county that they have 6 inches a still coming down with trees starting to come down and many at their breaking point.

Alma Hill is the highest point at 2548'. The hills below Andover peak out a little over 2300'.

But yeah the best deformation has set up west of Allegany I think. I believe they benefited around Andover/Alfred from a nice +SN burst overnight as the stuff pivoted west.

I'm hearing of reports of a rain/snow mix north of highway 401. Just rain in the downtown core where I'm situated.

I think the King City radar is on rain mode.

Thanks! I agree the Chautauqua ridge is going to be the prime spot to be, especially when the LES/Up-slope starts hitting tonight. They are going to get BURRIED, 2 feet might be likely once ratios start getting better as the day wears on...If this was in January btw, KBUF would have a foot of snow...they have been getting VERY wet snow since 5 am, many times very hard rates as well...

The town of OP has no snow at all...Chestnut ridge has 2-3 inches as of an hour ago. But the ridge is closer to North Boston then the town of OP with 500 feet of elevation on both places.

Awesome how in the village of OP itself theres no snow but then the sled hill at chestnut ridge has 2 or 3 inches awesome. I'm off to work. Maybe when I get out (10pm) itll be a little snowier :)

Bizarre storm.

At my school at about ~1450 feet, snow started falling at around 7:30am, sticking a bit before noon, and when I left about 15 minutes ago, there was probably close to 4" on the ground. For a time the flakes were huge and the snow was falling pretty fast. I suspect that some of the 1600'+ hills nearby have closer to 6", but I do not know for sure. Oak Hill (~2100') outside of Frewsburg probably has even more.

At my house at just under 1350 feet, snow started falling at around the same time, but didn't start sticking until around 2pm. We have about 1.5" eyeballing it right now. I'll get a measurement this evening. The band needs to move 5-8 miles west for me to really be in it.

I have never, ever seen such a drastic gradient from my school to my house. Occasionally during late and early season storms, I'll see a <1" difference, but never this much. I'm only 1500' from Chautauqua Lake (which is fairly warm for the time of year), so I don't know if there was any effect from that (I doubt it). If this had occurred at night, I bet we'd have seen more snow.

rain mode isn't the problem, as i have worked with both modes. on their site, it hasn't updated since 1620z. and right now it's 1922z. on the weather underground, it is up to date.
