Potential late season snow event for western NY and PA

Recommended Posts

the radar probably won't change too much from now through 00z. Bands will continue to intensify within the light snow and move westward towards BUF and then stop near Erie, PA.

I would love to be in the band that extends from Bradford, PA to Sherman, NY.

I think that band and area is where the good totals will be. That's the main band in the area that models had.

I dont see us getting 2-4″ . At least not during the day because even when it looks like were under a band on radar its not snowing hard at all and now were starting to melt off the accumulation we got this morning. Radar looks pretty unimpressive to the east in my unprofessional opinion. So by the time the sun goes down around 7-8pm i bet all moisture we have left will be even less impressive than it is now and we wont accumulate much. Think what we have on the ground now might be the most well see for the whole even. Just my opinion.

Pea soup fog here with a mist spraying through the air. 43F. The grass is really starting to grow despite the chill of this rain. I'm gonna be forced to finally cut it this week.

Melting rate is picking up pretty good now. Should be all green here by 2pm. This storm sucks. Oh well its my own fault i shouldnt have gotten my expectations up so high.

Just got done storm chasing, will be posting pictures soon! Great storm across higher elevations!

Amherst had an inch of snow, nothing from Cheektowaga to West Seneca. East Aurora to Boston Hills to Chestnut Ridge, and Colden. Colden and Boston Hills had nearly 5-6 inches of snow and was still coming down at a good clip. Even had a few inches of slush on most of the roadways. Uploading pictures atm.

There were people sledding at Chestnut Ridge, they had around 3 inches on top of the hill. It was absolutely remarkable what elevation is doing with this storm! There is not 1 flake sticking in Hamburg on the grass or trees. But around 1500-2k elevation its coming down like crazy! Literally 10 seconds went from nothing on ground to 5-6 inches!!!

All these locations are 15 minutes from my house. Going to go out tonight as well and get some more pictures. However, I did take my snow tires off, and it was rough going up those hills with all terrains and no 4 wheel drive. Either way it made for an incredible chase! The variation in snowfall amounts every 50 feet of elevation is incredible...

Bust for Toronto. Forecast high now of 8C (46F). Environment Canada nailed this.

Actually that high temperature was for this morning before the rain started. Temperatures are now falling--currently 38 at YYZ (Pearson Airport) and 39 in downtown Toronto. I don't know why Environment Canada did not mention the falling temps through the afternoon hours. For tonight, I'm expecting a slushy coating to an inch in the downtown core (north of Queen St.), 1-2" midtown/highway 401 and close to 2-3" north of Steeles Ave.

Thanks for the pictures. It's been well over a year now since I've been able to see decent snow accums again. I always think the wet, sticky late season snow is more picturesque than the dry powder as well. Good luck up there. I agree-western NY and NW PA look like they're getting clobbered. Some towns could end up with well over a foot, maybe near Olean and Bradford?

Awesome pics dude just awesome. Makes it a little less painful seeing areas not too far away cashing in well. Can't wait till I move to Orchard Park next month. Should be awesome to be so close to the Boston Hills for a short drive during these elvation dependent snow events. And from the sound of it , it seems like even OP itself is getting hit pretty good, they cancelled all evening activites. But I love these elevation driven events that we see here because it is so awesome like you said to see that just going up or down 50 to 100 feet can mean the difference between a half inch of slop and 2-3" of snow. Just incredible. Thanks for sharing!
