I hate these fooking trees.

It appears to be variable around the area. I have that exact same species of Maple near my house in Ayer and they couldn't be more dormant. Of course, ...Ayer's in the Nashoba Valley were numerous mornings have been at or below freezing since the big warm week at the end of March.

According to the local wunderground sites it hasn't been below freezing all month in the immediate boston to brookline area, and it shows here. Nearly all the maples around here have their leaves out now and it really looks like full spring.

It's just about perfect weather out there now with low 80s and low humidity. Time to set up the back porch for dinner.

Yeah these trees are much less green in the burbs.

Torched up here... 85F for a high at the local ASOS MVL (730ft). Nice sub 30% RH though... I don't mind low to mid 80s if the dews are in the 40s.

One of those days with no vegetation or leaves on the trees.. so the temperature has nothing from stopping it from blasting upward. Classic springtime dry heat over leaf-less terrain.

Down to 65F and dropping fast with a strong southerly breeze off of the ocean. Temp spread today from Little Compton, RI to Smithfield, RI was a 30F difference in highs yet only 30 miles apart. Looks like fog developing to my SE over Mt. Hope Bay/ Fall River.

How much of an affect does green vegetation do to daytime heating? Under the exact same conditions, I'd expect a leafed out forest/neighborhood to be cooler than one that doesn't have leaves. Is it enough to compensate for the adiabatic cooling? I.e. could some of the lower valley spots where leaf out has occurred be cooler than higher terrain which still looks like November/stick season?

I don't think it has enough of an effect to offset the natural lapse rate. The CT River valley to my west was about 4-6F warmer than here today which is fairly typical.

That pic looks like they are still a solid week from true leaf out. Those green clusters arent leaf out.

Everyone has their own defintion of leaf out. Some seem to think it's when the leaves are fully out..others feel it's once the tiny little leaves appear.. It's a matter of how each individual defines it..

To me leaf out is when leaves pop..

Full leaf out is when they are 100% out

Trees in my hood still have no leaves, just flowers on maples, dogwoods.

The oaks say, "what torch?"

We got about .15" last night. Between that and mid to upper 80s, lots more green. Also, more bugs.

Took my daughter out on her bike, and the black flies were getting to us.

KFS>Euro the last month plus...,

Yikes...

If you ignore the wire to wire torch the KFS called for in the first two weeks of April while the Euro correctly called for the big relaxation in the torch pattern. But I know the KFS has its own way of scoring skill.

The damn things are out here tonight too. Man do I hate them. No leaf out here by any standard. Tinder dry in the forest behind the house.
