MGorse
Mike, I know PHL reported a solid 76mph.. However, I believe our area in delco might have got it a little worse. I've sen 60mph wind gust damage before, and it was nothing near the scope of this. A tree here, a tree there,. This was pretty widespread as shown by tombo and my pics. Was just curious to see if the wind reported was in line with the damage pics. Yeah, impressive storm that day! Based on some measured gusts and radar data, the top winds with that storm was probably 80 mph.
Parsley
I know I've posted these before but since we are on the topic and I love showing them: http://outdoors.webs...578137593rgWfeS. Hope everyone got their new roofs back then Again the tree on Greenwood Ave. will be my lasting memory from that storm. Still amazes me nothing more than cuts and scratches to those in the car. Was fun driving through it after they cut out the center. Wow, great photos. Missed that storm up my way.
NaoPos
bri, the gust i reported the 76mph was measured at upper darby hs from their weather station, about .5 miles from some of the hardest hit areas around drexel park. I was pissed that day cause i didnt have my anemometer tightened down enough and the wind blew it right off lol. Hopefully Ray doesn't make the same mistake!! Lol. famartin
Hopefully Ray doesn't make the same mistake!! Lol. lol... well the one at home isn't going anywhere, I'm pretty sure. I tried out a flagpole for an anemometer support here in Elko but its proving to be too unstable. So I got a more expensive one and we'll see how that works

tombo82685
12z model battle between the gfs and euro. Euro says we push into the mid 80s sat and upper 80s sun. While the gfs says 80 sat and mid 70s sun.

I'm gonna tell ya.. Same song and Dance. Best forcing and shear up north, better thermo's down here with less shear. Don't get your hopes up with a track like that. Grothar
Evapo-transportation type of thing. Like what often does happen in the mid-west. Cut me a break here. Its another added item to the equation to getting something going. Instead of DRY BEGETS DRY thing. Wet begets wet. Soil moisture and of course soil temperature has a lot to do with t-storm creation but the air must be heated and unstable too. It must be a trifecta. Just like when a tropical storm or hurricane forms over the ocean- the water temps must be present. I would love to know if a study was recently done that measured soil temperatures above 60 degrees were conducive for the formation of tornadoes in the midwest and southeast, especially during the late fall months

I think we will have our share of 90+ degree days this summer...I'm thinking July and August will feature a good number of these - with fewer rainy/cloudy days then in the past month. I hope so, but all things considered, while I like it hot, 90's aren't a strict crideria for a good summer. For me it's 80 degrees or warmer, with mostly dry days punctuated by the usual summer storms. What I can't stand for summer is the pattern we're currently in. greg ralls
Last time I remember rooting for 90 degree days back in 1983 when I was 14. That summer, we had a chance to catch 1943 as the summer with the most 90 degree days. At the time, the record was 42, and 1983 fell just one day short of tying that mark, but I remember taking solace in the fact that it was the only other year to have over 40 days get to at least 90. Now that I'm a homeowner & paying air conditioning bills, I don't root for 90 any longer.

Paying to run my central air during long stretches of hot weather isn't exactly fun. Plus, I think an 85 degree day with low to moderate humidity is infinitely better for almost all outdoor activities than a 95 degree day with high humidity. Well, obviously I don't think most people who even enjoy the heat intend to do a lot during it. Just sit around and be lazy Maybe they just like the excuse

Just sit around and be lazy Maybe they just like the excuse I used to love the heat when I had an in-ground swimming pool in my backyard. But that was more than 20 years ago, and I also wasn't paying the electric bill back then. I've assumed that many lovers of hot weather readily have access to either an outdoor swimming pool or some other large body of water (lake, ocean, etc.). Yeah the heat is also another reason with the electric bills with having the A/C unit on alot. You might not have seen the storm Ryan and I got ourselves on also. In Fallston,MD of the EF1 tornado that dropped right on us. I like going to the ocean though not into it actually just the salt air is good for my lungs and sinuses, i come back after a full week down there and i can smell things and taste things. Its like a whole new world for me as my senses are pretty much shot being around coffee and spices all my life.
