I actually didn't mind the temps, but at least where I was in Berwyn, we had off and on showers all day and the sun never came out. It was gross.

There was a little sun early in the afternoon, but after about 3pm, it was cloudy the rest of the day/evening with the same off and on showers you saw.

It always seems like mild weather brings more mild weather (i.e. mild winter equates to mild summer). Has there ever been a mild winter followed by a really hot summer? I'm sure it has happened at some point, but if I had to guess I'd say it goes against the norm. Perhaps it is just affirmation bias.

Either way, I thought we were hitting a peak solar cycle? Or is that over now?

Those pics are whiter than most Januaries around here haha.

well 2010-2011 winter was cold then the following summer was hot. You could maybe say the same for 09-10 winter but that was snowy, not so much cold.

Alright. Just cause I'm bored at work. Got some pics of some storm damage from straight line winds. Anyone wanna take a guess of the wind speed that would cause such damage?

Tree snapped at the base. Roots intact:

75-100 ft tree pretty healthy looking toppled over:

Widespread tree damage at a particular intersection. Numerous trees and braces down:

Another few trees snapped at the base:

Healthy trees snapped in half:

Tombo reported 76mph...just curious to see how accurate it was.

My guess.....those winds must have been 90-100 mph. I was in the middle of the 98' derecho in upstate NY which where I experience winds to nearly 90 mph and the damage was similar caused by straight line winds.

Mike,

I know PHL reported a solid 76mph.. However, I believe our area in delco might have got it a little worse. I've sen 60mph wind gust damage before, and it was nothing near the scope of this. A tree here, a tree there,. This was pretty widespread as shown by tombo and my pics. Was just curious to see if the wind reported was in line with the damage pics.

bri, the gust i reported the 76mph was measured at upper darby hs from their weather station, about .5 miles from some of the hardest hit areas around drexel park. I was pissed that day cause i didnt have my anemometer tightened down enough and the wind blew it right off lol.

I know I've posted these before but since we are on the topic and I love showing them: http://outdoors.webs...578137593rgWfeS. Hope everyone got their new roofs back then

Again the tree on Greenwood Ave. will be my lasting memory from that storm. Still amazes me nothing more than cuts and scratches to those in the car. Was fun driving through it after they cut out the center.
