tim
With tonight's rain event becoming less and less likely, when's our next chance of rain? Next weekend? ...according to 'accuweathers' amy freeze.."a soaking rain is possible next saturday"(next w/e)...need it bad out here..talking to a local nurseryman.. ..he said its the driest he's ever witnessed and 'digging' has been delayed as they set up irrigation. Snow_Miser
When I woke up today the ground wasn't even wet... meaning whatever possible rain here was barely measurable. Could the dry air have something to do with this? RH values were in the 20s yesterday, so maybe that caused the precipitation to fall as Virga? bluewave
Going above guidance on the temperature and below on rainfall has been a tough hand to beat around here.
uncle W
we need what happened on this date in 2007...7.5" of rain fell that day...The dry warmth continues...
Weathergun
Most of the model guidance is now showing rainstorm somewhere over the East Coast, next weekend. We'll see what happens.
SnoSki14
Guidance has been off in the extended and every storm it showed has diminished as we got closer. Even if we do get the storm, gfs still doesn't show us getting more than .75" which would barely put a dent in the drought. I have a feeling the storm ends up being an inland cutter and we get showers as the front passes by giving us maybe .25-50".
Snow_Miser
I will say this though- it is definitely more humid outside than yesterday (RH around 70 percent IMBY) which should make any fire risk today minimal.
NEG NAO
Expect this statement to be expanded to include most of the area by late week : from this mornings NYC AFD HYDROLOGY NO SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE WEEK. SEVERE DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER SOUTHERN CT AND LONG ISLAND. THE PRECIPITATION OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT 14 DAYS IS BELOW NORMAL.

tim
..driving from eastport up to riverhead sunday(around noon)noticed smoke around sunrise hwy..as we got closer there were fire trucks going into the woods(we were on speonk/riverhead road)..the SW winds were pushing the smoke over sunrise..on our way home i noticed all trucks were re-filling w/ water out of a hydrant..i guess it was a small one which was quickly put out..we need that soaker this weekend.. Snow_Miser
Today I started to notice the recent dry spell's toll on the grassy areas. They are starting to become yellowish and brownish in some spots. Today's heat definitely won't help the dry grassy patches.

NYCSuburbs
With almost no rain since last week, I wonder what this will show with the next update on Thursday... this is probably the last nearly rainless week as next weekend has a better chance of rain, whether it's 1/2 inch or 1-2 inches, which definitely won't erase the drought but at least could hopefully ease it a little bit or stop it from getting worse. NEG NAO
6z GFS still advertising a prolonged heavy rain event over 2 inches from late saturday through early Monday - the key here is if as we get closer guidance starts showing much drier solutions - right now IMO this event will not yield 2 inches http://wxweb.meteostar.com/sample/sample.shtml?text=KEWR

The tropics will be wide open and the LLJ will strengthen and slow down, dumping over one area for quite a while. If it's a more progressive open trough, it will likely be a quick shot of rain, or a front. We really need a good soaker for most of us to put a dent in the drought at this point. A quick hitter won't do it.
