NYCSuburbs
Wow... I left a couple days ago on a vacation to Peru until this weekend and this is what happened during that time. Are there any fires in NE NJ, or are they mostly confined to Long Island and the rest of NJ? I haven't heard much about it, but I saw that Teterboro is reporting "smoke", and from what I've heard the fires are getting some international coverage. Allsnow
We really need some rain...cutting today lawns are drying up...as many people with irrigation have not turn it on......also very dusty for this time of year....normally i would be fighting wet lawns and high grass

Hopefully the pattern becomes wetter later in the month.
SquatchinNY
NYC, there was a brush fire in NJ earlier, kind of close to North Bergan. (By the way, I am TDAT on the Accuwx forums)

SnoSki14
And yet many people want to see 80s this weekend and next week when that would only exacerbate the fire danger.

SnoSki14
I dont understand some people. If we didn't have these fire dangers and the soils were moist, precipitation was around normal, then I wouldn't mind it so much to see a couple days of 80s (though it's still way too early in my opinion) but because of the growing seriousness of the fires and increasing drought conditions, it's not something we need at all right now. We may have some shower opportunities next week, but it doesn't look too impressive right now.
Cfa
so a northwest wind was blowing smoke from a fire that was east of you in your direction? and isnt that fire out? It was an assumption. I don't carry around a weather vane. Maybe something was actually on fire, idk. It was a burning wood smell.

SmokeEater
I dont understand some people. The humidity is going to come up starting Friday, to much higher levels then what it is now. The high temp doesn't matter that much compared to the level of humidity when it comes to fire wx. It will still be dry, but all of the tri state area isn't going to combust all at once, like some think.

jm1220
Severe drought as of this morning in SNE, Long Island, and Delmarva. http://droughtmonito...M_northeast.htm Starting to wonder when drought watches/warnings will be hoisted.
Stormlover74
I've noticed very little growth though over the past week. Same with the trees which looked like they were going to be in full bloom by now look much the same as they did last week. despite the lack of rain, grass remains green with no watering needed. That might have been with cooler temperatures than we've seen recently but perhaps the dry conditions are playing some role. Moderate drought for NJ, severe into LI now and will get progressively worse if little rain falls. I suspect that drought watches are not too far away, but at least there's some hope of rain from now through next Thursday, primarily showers with the cold front but anything is better than nothing at this point. LocoAko
And yet many people want to see 80s this weekend and next week when that would only exacerbate the fire danger. Cfa
Maybe someone was having a fire in their woodstove? Mhmm, in the middle of a commercial area. The grass is turning white/brown now. It was looking pretty lush a few days ago.
