Damage In Tolland

Recommended Posts

The laws against littering are very lax and uninforced. And the deposits on the cans are a joke at a nickel in most states. No where near enough to induce people to do pick-ups and not enough to deter anyone from just tossing them. Maybe at a quarter per can it could effect some behavior.

LOL I got about $10 in deposit cans I guess ...the hardest $10 I ever made if you look at it that way.

But I'll bring them in and get my lousy $10.

it's amazing what I see on the sides of I-95 here. They could clean it once a week and it would not matter. PIGS

it's a stupid outdated thing anyway-those deposits were put into place well before curbside recycling started...no wonder most states don't participate (mainly NY and New England states (except RI and NH)--agree 5 cents who cares-it's essentially a tax on soda beer and bottled water.

the return area at the local grocery stores are gross-smelly, filthy and sticky goo everywhere and odd characters hanging out there....

Actually, Maine is one of the largest redemption states as we take back the most deposited items, We have well over 300 redemption centers here and you do not see any bottles, cans, juice, water or liquor bottles all over the roads as there are many people that go around collecting them, The grocery store is not the place to go redeem these, They need to go to a discount beverage store or a redemption center that strictly handles returnables and how i know is i worked as a manager at a beer dist for 15 years and my company sells all the supplies boxes and bags to all the recycling centers plus most of the distributors of the products that get redeemed in the state, It also provides jobs to folks in areas that have no other industry.

Cigs, empty cig packs, beer/soda cans, wine bottles, beer bottles, plastic and foil snack food bags, fast food bags with remnants....and on and on... American's are absolute pigs and disgrace the way they litter.... Maybe it's only like 10%, but they ruin it for everyone. I do a couple roads here picking up trash in the Spring and it is beyond description. We won't even get into the people that dump whole bags of trash and pieces of construction material etc.

I just picked up 4 garbage bags full of litter along 1000' of my 1500' of road frontage. Disgusting.

On a brighter note, the north slopes of the Catskills above 2800' +/- are still quite white. I'm guessing it is just the little bit from this last "storm" but it's always nice to see.

hopefully one or two of those systems can materialize from sunday onward.

would be nice to get some weather to talk/think about...and we obviously need some rain (snow?).

Yeah the overall H5 pattern looks like it should to me anyways. Obviously details TBD.

Best Easter ever?

i though it might be...not so sure anymore.

maybe be one of those days where its 60F+ for LL with WNW winds but 48F at BOS? euro now has really light precip spreading across SNE during the day so minimally would imply a lot of clouds...it's actually a "damp" day here verbatim. hope it's overdone and things end up closer to the GFS.

Classic rattler evolves out of that... eventually the whole bag evolves into an island low that [probably] takes a month to spin down :axe:

i'd love to see a coastal get going out of that. i don't have high expectations right now for anything...but getting some going wouldn't be too far-fetched of an idea.

some big tides starting this weekend and going through most of next week too.

hopefully it doesn't just end up as more dry NW flow with lows just pinwheeling into N ME.

Lundberg discussing our biggest fears in todays' column..We're in deep, deep trouble

3) Dry pattern. The lack of the spring snowmelt would have been okay had the moistness of the winter pattern continued into March and now early April. It didn't. Now the top soil is quickly drying out, and there's no rain for five days from Chicago to Boston. With the underbrush drying out as well, the danger of brush fires will steadily increase. Any time the winds whip up, it will increase more in these dry air masses. Just ask the folks in Jefferson County, Colorado, about that.

Going into next week, I don't necessarily see storminess returning, either. With the upper-level trough axis likely to be along and then off the East Coast Tuesday to Thursday, the chance of any meaningful storm is pretty low, especially west of the I-95 corridor.
