0z NAM looks juicy..

It's a bit drier than the 18z NAM though, and east of central NY is more suppressed than the previous run as it goes more ESE rather than east. Perhaps an indication of the NAM starting to cave in to the suppressed and drier solutions... the 21z SREF also trended more suppressed, leaving the NAM a northern outlier.

18z & 0z both print out .60-.70" qpf throughout the HV..

That temp seemed a little off to me but I guess it's correct. It's quite chilly in the city as well. You really notice the wind on your skin like it was mid march or something. Lows for the day are in the upper 40s but should be reached late tonight adding to the negative departure for the day.

3:30PM and only 43 F out. If it weren't in the 50s around midnight, the departure for today would have been close to 20 F. I went up to High Point, NJ this afternoon. Temperatures were probably in the 30s and windchill in the 20s (winds gusting near 50 MPH).

The 43 F was taken from a NWS station (KFWN Sussex Airport). I saw an unofficial station in the High Point area on wunderground with temperatures in the 30s . Of course it could be off, but I'm sure it was at least a few degrees cooler than the lower elevations.

Forecasted low here tonight is 28 F.

40/26 up this way with elevations above 1000' in the upper 30's..

Brings a tear to my eye. Will always be the king of kings for me. I experienced it in my hometown of Howell (got 27 inches) in SE Monmouth after years of virtually snowless torture other than 93-94. It snowed day after day. Duration, duration, duration. No storm I have ever experienced tops the 1996 blizzard's duration.

I wish I was old enough to remember '96

That storm was 10X better than the Dec 2010 blizzard and that was mainly because it had affected so many people, meanwhile 2010 only affected the NYC area.

I did a little write up last year on it, live vicariously through that, lol.

each storm was impressive in its own right, but if you add everything up, blizz 96 ftw

1996 wins in Duration, Cold Temperatures/Wind Chill, Snow Totals (for me anyway) and impact on the largest area

2010 gets the nod in one area over 1996 in my opinion, wind speeds.

But both were amazing experiences and I'm grateful that I am able to remember every last detail of both perfectly. After all for a snowhound like myself nothing compares to lots of:

Overall, I think that the blizzard of '78 outdoes both of them.

(at least on Long Island it does)
