NYCSuburbs
I assume it's about to pour here any minute... considering that a widespread rain event doesn't look likely until April 9-10 at the earliest, I'm hoping for as much rain as possible tonight. Sundog
I don't understand. Did no local stations record the sleet from a few days ago? That should have been good for a trace.

pazzo83
Seriously. There was sleet for at least an hour Friday night. Not sure about LGA/JFK, but in the city it sleeted for about 5 minutes. It was strange because I was in a cab and started hearing pinging on the roof, except it was close to 50F out so I wasn't sure what the hell was going on. Was more like graupel/sleet mix. Lasted for about 30-45mins. Temps were low 40's, I believe. But it was Definetely a form of frozen. Even if it was hail, which I don't think it was, it should've reported as a trace of snow.

We were a few ticks warmer in midtown at that point so that's probably why it didn't last as long. Strange nonetheless.
rgwp96
my stations stats (butler nj, northern Morris county) mean temp=48.8, normal 37.7 precip, normal 4, this march 1.

mattinpa
To which following the models in the long range has done well so far this year? They could be just as wrong about warm weather predicted. I don't think the huge positive departures will last THAT much longer.
NYCSuburbs
They could be just as wrong about warm weather predicted. I don't think the huge positive departures will last THAT much longer. They've already been wrong about medium-long range warmth for today; today and tomorrow were originally modeled to bring strong warmth into the area and other parts of the region, not another trough. The time period that Snow88 mentioned, which I assume is late next weekend/early next week, also doesn't look like much more than at least two days of stronger warmth. There's still going to be big positive departures at times, but this pattern doesn't look like one that frequently produces them for the area, with average-slightly above average temps more frequent. bluewave
This will just be a less above normal period going forward. We were only able to manage a -1 departure yesterday and temps we be right back into the 60's by Tuesday. There has been no lasting below normal streak here since around the late October snow. April will still have a + departure at the Park.

To be fair, the low wasn't that low, so it mitigated the effects of a chilly high in the records.

Stormlover74
Yeah but the high was 5 below normal plus it was cloudy and damp, the overnight low is what kept us closer to normal for the day. Saturday was about 15 degrees below normal during the afternoon hours making it one of the coldest days of the month. Amazing yesterday was just a -1 day, shows how spoiled we have become. Jefflaw77
Honestly, with upper 50's to perhaps low-mid 60's coming up this weekend, nobody can complain.. Ya it won't be 80 - but who cares.. It's sensible weather in April and provides ample opportunity to go outside and enjoy SPRING.. That's what it's all about.. I'm all for early spring warmth, but sometimes, normal to slightly above normal weather in Spring is just fine.. This past weekend was horrible.. Yesterday was okay, until it rained late, but overall the weekend stunk.. If anyone here likes that type of weather they should seriously seek professional help.. Stormlover74
Well I could say the same about someone wanting it to be 105 with 120 heat index :-). Can't go outside, inside is uncomfortable even with AC. But yes Saturday was probably the ugliest day of the entire month and it was raw and nasty. Good day to do stuff inside though. Again I think we're all kinda spoiled expecting it to be in the 70s and sunny every weekend when in reality if we get 3 or 4 weekends like that from now until memorial day we should consider ourselves lucky.
