Gusts reached 50 here around 3 p.m. Still had gusty conditions at 8 p.m. Looking for another cold night tonight. The blackberries have started to bloom, which means that we should have no more frosts. We'll see.

Blackberry winter is on the way.

In South & Midland North America, Blackberry Winter is referred to as a period of cold weather as low as -6 °C (20 °F) in late spring when the blackberries are in bloom. This is generally in the month of May and is known to last approximately up to 14 days.

Prior to technological advances in meteorology, farmers would use such terms to know when to plant certain crops.Blackberries must have a cold snap to set buds on the blackberry canes. It comes with a somewhat less severe return of a continental polar air mass after the maritime tropical air masses have begun to dominate the weather. So, there will be a cold snap when the blackberries bloom, called Blackberry Winter and it is traditionally the opposite ofIndian Summer in terms of seasonal shifts.

Just like I predicted, 62 ended up being the high for today but it certainly didn't feel like it with the constant breeze. It's more of a November-like feel outside instead of April. Going to be a cold one tonight so the heat will be on (never thought I say that around this time of year  ).

Start making plans now  I've always wanted to go to the conference, but family vacation kept me from attending. So next year vacation will be in June and I'll be free in July. :)

Only one one condition, you are as nice in person as you are here :lmao::P

I've wanted to go to one for a very long time too. So many great people on our forum and it sucks to have never meet any of them after all these years. I mean think about this, I've known people like jeremy, brandon, allan for 12 years now and never have meet them. I also think I've known widre for at least 10 years too and the man just cracks me up all the time. Hell I haven't even meet anyone on the staff yet..and I'm dying to meet them, especially randy who was the first one to reach out to me and has always been such a class act...plus I know the man will have me in tears the whole time. But every damn year something important keeps me from going...frustrating as hell.

29.4 here in Dahlonega. We went below freezing at 5am and there is plenty of frost IMBY. Poor strawberries.

32.5 here this morning but I didn't see any frost to speak off. I think part of that is the winds stayed up here pretty late. But with a temp that low, one would think there would be frost at least in the typical protected areas but I didn't see any.

29 at 7 a.m. and just beautiful here. The frost was just the perfect frost, if there can be that sort of thing. John, you were right about the "blackberry winter". So much for the blossoms meaning that there would be no more frosts.post-1004-0-20933500-1334235063.jpg

Made it to 62 yesterday, but that stiff north wind made it feel much colder. Had to wear the heavy jacket all day. A welcome relief from March! post-1004-0-02683000-1334235090.jpg

I'm much nicer in person  Hopefully you can make the next SE g2g too  I can't wait to meet everyone next year at the conference. I've become friends with so many people over the years, and while internet/text/phone chats are great, there is nothing like spending time face to face with everyone ^_^

CAE didn't drop below 40 this morning, but there is another chance tomorrow before the heat returns

You were a little cooler than me this morning. We were at 32F with no frost except on the roof and windshields. Hope you are doing well!?

We were stuck at 35 when I left for work real early but it dropped quick right before sunrise. We're doing great. Work has been so crazy I've barely been able to check in here since February.

I tied a record low this with a 22 degree temp. Very cold and had a heavy heavy frost. Covered some stuff but the temp was too low for to long. There was lots of stuff that got bit by the Freeze. We were under 32 degrees for about 10 hours. Yesterday was just a raw day in general. Looks like we will have another Freeze tonight here in Haywood county then back to warmth!

I'm getting a bit concerned abut my lack of rain so far this year. I know a lot of you have had plenty of rain, but here the year is off to a bad start. Only .74 for April with none in sight. With 7.12 for the year I am already 6" below normal.
