April Observations and Discussion

I haven't had three inches of rain in a single month this year. 2.33 in March was my best month. April is turning out to be the worst. 1.72 at this point and not looking for much if any between now and the 30th.

Ya it is really amazing how much rain Haywood county has had. It rains here about every three to four days and it usually rains a lot when it does rain. The ground is so wet i have water plants growing in the field and keeping up the the grass is a feat of it's own. I no down East in the State has barely seen much rain at all for a long while. Heck at the Asheville airport yesterday they said they only got 0.25 inches of rain and we got about 3 inches in one day.

Last night was maddening. I got nothing but sprinkles while 10 to 20 miles away got as much as 3 to 5 inches, depending on which radar site you looked at. Storms just trained over the same area to the NW of me, they would not budge, and when they finally did and actually started moving they of course fell apart....typical. Some appreciable rain fell just north of me and I was literally just a few miles away from at least getting a few tenths to an inch. Just sickening. :axe:

Only good thing, was seeing a great lightning show for like 3 or 4 hours but I sure would have taken the rain instead because it's dry here

same here :axe: had several rounds of big storms move to the north over the same areas then it happened toi the south lol. not a drop of rain here. the lightshow was good initially but got frustrating the longer it went on and i realized it was going to just miss mby lol

It was ridiculous last night, amazing that given the locations of all 3 of us (Lookout included) you would think that the band of storms would have given at least one of us some needed rain, but it was not to be. Whats been interesting to me is how we have had a couple of pop up storms this spring, but literally not 1 rain/storm event due to a typical spring weather system. Don't know if I can ever remember that happening. Anyhow, if we don't make up some in the next 25 days or so, I'm afraid this summer is gonna be nasty. :gun_bandana::sun:

You can definitely feel the effects here. I had a high of 61.7 at 1:22 AM. It's currently 57.4 outside with dense clouds. Not a bad day for mowing.

Yea. It's dying down it looks like. I have a felling that it's gonna be in the 90's soon, because Canada's getting warmer (ie Hudson bay melting), and ill be wishing it was this cold again.

Spring is sure a roller coaster.

Currently 91! Just keeps getting hotter and hotter. NWS jax had a high of 90 today. Best forecast on Wunderground had a high of 93 and TWC had 93. TWC got the forecast high right on yesterday as the NWS had a high of 88. Anyways.. ITS HOT! lol The weather has been great lately, but I prefer it to be raining now. I'm with Tony. We need an Alberto or another Fay would be nice to keep rid of this forever lasting drought. The forecast for my area on TWC just has the temperature rising higher each day.

The cloud cover is still hanging tough up against the mountains and even down to Charlotte, it appears. The mountains look to be in sun, though. I'm with you: keep the hot weather of GA/SC away as long as possible. Sorry you guys are roastin' and can't say I envy you at all.

KATL will be pursuing the record high today at 89. Forecast is 89 from the NWS so we shall see what happens. KATL fell sort yesterday of the forecast high by 2 or three degrees. Will today be different? I think we tie or break it. KATL is off to a quick jump this morning recording 78 at the 10 AM hour. Yesterday when they hit 86 it was only 68 degrees at the same hour.

Ended the month with 2.87" and the yearly total now stands at 10.70" which is a departure of -3.30" (or close to one months average of 3.50").

It's getting dry.

Wait a minute...you've still got 12.5 hours remaining in the month, don't you? Afternoon convection is forecast for the western piedmont, but I'm not sure about central areas. I'm hoping to add to my monthly total this afternoon, so I'll wait on posting my monthly totals.

I wonder why it only hit 87 at KATL yesterday while other areas like Peachtree City and Kennesaw were in the 90's ?

I would be posting the totals tomorrow anyhow if it did rain. Yesterday was technically the last day to add rain to the bucket totals for April if you use Cocorahs.

There are no official reporting stations in Kennesaw or Peachtree City. So I don't know where you are getting numbers but they are not from NWS stations.

I believe there is a young kid on here who lives in Kennesaw and says it was 90 at his house yesterday. It also hit 90 here yesterday according to my $1,200 weather station. If it's not accurate then I want my money back.

I hear you and would not be surprised if it did. I was only stating that there are no official stations and there isn't. Your 1,200 dollar station will never be a NWS station. Do you have the fan aspiration feature?

My station really did report 90 yesterday. I noticed it seemed a little warm compared to other nearby stations such as McCollum. Don't know why it was running warm.

Do you have the fan aspiration feature? I have heard without that feature stations can run warm during the day and at night. All that said I still wouldn't be surprised if the 90 at your house would have been recorded by an official station if it was up there. We are only talking about a few degrees which can easily be within the envelope of variability from location to location.

I'm starting to get the feeling KATL is going to fall short of the record again today unfortunately. It just dropped back down to 85, this same thing happened yesterday where it waffled up and down that prevented us from tying the record. I hope I'm wrong though, if were gonna be this hot and close to the record we might as well tie or break it.

It is sure looking a lot less likely isn't it.

86.7 yesterday, 87.8 today, so far. I can live with this if that's the worse I get, lol. And Mr. Burns is right...I have three sensors around the yard and rarely get the same reading on all, or even two. Usually get a one to three degree spread, and they are in a 100+ foot, or so, triangle, out of the sun, and the altitude varies. But I didn't spent a grand for them, lol, maybe 25 bucks, so they might be a bit toward the junk side :) T
