Impressive! KATL's low turned out to be 43. So, GFS MeteoStar did end up 4 too cold....no surprise. Today, the 6Z GFS based on MeteoStar is going for a high of 58, which is very believable, and a low of 38 tonight.

KSAV got down to 46 this morning, which is only about one warmer than MeteoStar had. Tonight it is projecting 41.

Folks,

KATL is very near the 12Z GFS Meteostar output. So, I expect its high to be ~58. OTOH, and not surprisingly, KSAV's MeteoStar is running ~5 too cold. It had a high of only 60 and it was already 62 at 1 PM. Expect it to top out near 65-67. I'm really looking forward to my walk today here in Savannah! It should be so refreshing and keep me quite content.

It was an impressively chilly 40 in Sav. this AM, which is one colder than MeteoStar. OTOH, Atl. stations were in low 40's vs. MStar's high 30's. Three cheers for Sav. and a boo for Atl. lol. Another glorious day in store!

I pulled another 38.4. Yesterday about 10:30 the Experiment Station measured winds at 31 mph. and that was about the time a pine came down in my drive. I heard it go, but not hit the ground. Went out to find it hung up over the drive. Had to play lumber jack/arborist all afternoon :) It was a great day for it. Too bad we couldn't have had some more days like that during the winter, lol. Area forecast discussion

National Weather Service Blacksburg Virginia

137 am EDT Wednesday Apr 25 2012

Near term /through today/...

WRF showing a consistent shower threat this morning across the far

SW Virginia/northwest NC County Warning Area...and have bumped probability of precipitation up to account for

this...and carry it longer into the morning. Would not be out of

the realm of possibility to see snow on the highest ridges like Montana

Rogers or Beech Mountain...but nothing accumulating.

Is that a record? I visited some friends down there in early March and it got down to around 40, they were all freaking out haha. Enjoy the pleasant weather!

Thanks. The record low for 4/24 at KSAV is 38 F. So, very close, but no cigar.

Major wind, rain, lightning, and hail. WIth that storm. Wind blew down some big branches. Rain washed the drive and we had pea size hail and the lightning is still hitting very close. Looks like a good soaking behind this squall line.

Same here in Weaverville 85. One of my most impressive storms of the year so far!

Missed this mornings' storms, but saw plenty of lightning from them. Now it looks like we're just going to get grazed by the bottom edge of this line passing through... Wondering how much this will stabilize the atmosphere for possible storms later in the day?

I think it depends on how long it takes for this line to go through. I think it could actually make it worse for this afternoon if it clears up quickly because the air will be more humid from this round of storms.
