Glad to see the GFS is on board with the EURO

Also could be some SICK LE SNOW if things verify like that.. Lake temps are above normal and those cold 850's just spell out a sig LE even..

That was my first thought, hopefully get something down in SW Michigan.

Greencastle has been goofy. They were consistently several degrees warmer than everyone else during the big March warm spell.

If the GFS and Euro are right in the long range there will be plenty of southern/central plains severe action this season for all you weenies. Everyone relax and don't panic. The cold lovers will get theirs and so will the severe wx guys.

This is what I was thinking. I have read that in years where we have lots of warm air and no residual cold there tends to be a lot less svr storms. This roller coaster pattern we are currently in tells me we will have strong baroclinic zones this spring. Now if we can just get the ridge and cut off lows out of the way spring can continue to be interesting. Just look at what an outflow boundary did in the DFW area today.

GFS OP/ensembles have been showing some substantial potential for svr wx after this coming eastern trough moves off the coast, obviously still far out though, but getting this ridge out of the way will likely go a long way towards getting some more healthy systems into the central part of the country.

Welcome back. Did you have a good trip?

BTW you missed nothing while you were gone.

It was the best vacation/trip I have ever taken.

Before getting into detail i'll just start off with a few notes...

-Family and friends were along on the trip.

-None of the crew on the ship were American. Everyone was from a different country...They are signed to a 9 month contract and have to know three languages (One being English, the other their home county language, and another).

-Food is included in the cruise price, so it's all you can eat 24hrs a day (Formal ship resturants are not free).

-This ship had two clubs, several bars and formal resturants, a theater, a casino, a spa, 4 pools, and an adults only section(The Sanctuary)...along with many other things.

-I took about 1,500 photos and a few videos during the trip. I'm going to scan through them and i'll end up posting some of the best shots in a thread in the photography sub-forum in the next day or so.

-If you or anyone you know has ever considered going on a cruise, but has not done so...I urge you to go on one. You will have an awesome time...You get to meet new and interesting people and get to visit some amazing places. The ship and island experience is great.

Friday afternoon-Sunday afternoon(23-25th) we were in Ft. Lauderdale, where we spent time on the beach and visiting shops. We then boarded the cruise and set sail later that Sunday afternoon(25th). That night a cold front drifted southward into the area, which storms developed along and created an 8hr+ photogentic light show as we passed through the Florida Straits and between the Bahamas.

Monday(26th) we were supposed to "port" at Princess Cay, Bahamas. The only issue is that this stop does not have an actual port, thus the ship anchors about a mile offshore and passengers take the tenders/life boats to shore. Well, with the continued storms and the front in the area, waters were too rough(waves 2+ feet), so the captain decided to play it safe and not "port"...instead getting a head start to the next port. Monday night we saw Magician, David Cats perform.

Tuesday(27th) was an at sea day, and we ended up seeing comedian, Phil Tag perform Tuesday evening. As mentioned above, all ship crew are from numerous countries. Tuesday evening and night I had dinner and spent time with three of the younger waitresses. Two were from Ukraine and the other was from Serbia. It was great to talk, get to know, and have a fun time with them. We ended up getting together each of the following nights until the end of the cruise.

Wednesday(28th) we arrived at St. Maarten(St. Martin) a few hours early due to us not stopping at the Bahamas. We spent the day in Philipsburg, visiting the local shops, beach and the "hoods" of the city. We also took a short drive up to Orient Beach, which is one of the top beaches in the world. A few things... Orient Beach is a nude beach and the hoods(Or as the locals call it, "Goonville") of Philipsburg is a nice place to find some of that "magic, mon".

Thursday(29th) we were ported at St. Thomas, USVI. What started as a nice sunny day quickly turned cloudy with frequent showers. Even with that, we visited shops in the main city of Charlotte Amalie and took a short drive to Magens Beach, which is another top rated beach. Thursday evening and night we counted some nice wave actioned, which sent the ship rocking and made for fun times. Two of the larger top deck pools had tsunami-like action, with 4 foot+ waves and sig spray action. Water and kids in the pools were being thrown out of the pools and onto the surrounding deck and elevator areas with the bigger waves. One of the waves was too much for one of the deck hands...He was bent over trying to tie down a net to prevent passengers from entering the pool when a larger wave took him in.

Friday(30th) we were ported in Grand Turk of the Turks and Caicos. Part of our group decided to head to Cockburn Town for some shopping then back to the beach, while myself and others spend the whole time at the beach. There were a few shops at the port/cruise center that we visited, but the rest of the day was spent relaxing on the beach and snorkling. What was great and amazing about this beach is that part of it was fine and white sandy beach, while other parts were rocky and coral reef...which made for great near shore snorkling. Friday night we ended up seeing comedian, Miguel Washington.

Saturday(31st) was spent at sea. We spent just about all day up on deck in the sun. Saturday night we also saw a second combined performance by Magician David Cats and comediam Miguel Washington.

Sunday morning we ported back in Ft. Lauderdale, which is were we stayed until yesterday before catching a flight back home.

tl;dr version: Awesome and unforgettable trip, and the cruise is something you should do if you have ever thought about going on one.

Chicago-Sounds like an awesome time.

I've done 2 of them...

The wife and I were on Orient Beach about 10 years ago. I remember back then it was a little odd being surrounded by naked people. I still remember someone snorkeling...with just snorkeling gear on! Neat place. Its weird driving through that island because there is cactus everywhere...yet on another island (Tortola) its all tropical and lush (elevation being key...or at least I would guess that is the case since Tortola was very hilly). Today I think I'd just walk around with my Charlie Brown swinging around :)

Heading down quick here...Sparta should be around freezing I would guess in the morning.

Sounds like a great trip ChiStorm. I've always wanted to go on a cruise, something I definitely plan on doing in the future. Aside from people who get seasick I've never really heard anyone have anything but praise for cruises they've been on.

Did a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas about 5 years ago, loved every minute of it, and won enough playing blackjack that the trip ended up being free :)
