wisconsinwx
It might just be me, but I think it's precipitating tiny sleet pellets that are obviously all rain once they reach the ground, occurring despite temps near 50.

You might be seeing ice pellets. FWIW, this is the forecast for Oshkosh today: This Afternoon Chance Rain/Snow Hi 57 °FTonight Slight Chc Lo 30 °F The air must really decrease with altitude fast. Something similar happened a few years ago in Miami during January. The NWS acted like the people who saw it were crazy. NWS forecasters can be very narrow minded when it comes to some things apparently.
hm8
Gusting over 40 mph here. I swear I've never been in a city as windy as it is here on campus in Ann Arbor. On days like these there are wind tunnels where it's tough to walk, has to be gusting around 60mph in these places
Geos
Within a 10 mile radius, peak wind gusts have been between 43-47mph! Temperature falling into the upper 40s due to light showers moving through. Will have to watch and see if any ice pellets come down this afternoon!

Called LOT and got a response of "It's like 55 degrees out there." and a general act of disbelief from the girl.
Hoosier
Although sfc temps are mild the melting layer is not extremely thick. I believe the ice pellet reports. Probably more like graupel given the setup with low freezing levels.
Geos
Def getting some ice pellets here as well today... I hadnt posted as I thought I was crazy There is some heavier showers moving this way. I suspect I might see some graupel or sleet in a few!
Hoosier
Here is an RUC forecast sounding for ORD valid 18z. Note the steep low level lapse rates and freezing level of 880 mb or about 3500 feet. Conceivable that something other than rain could be making it down toward the ground in heavier bursts.
on_wx
Holy hurricane, batman! Two metal poles of three with the fake lighted palm trees on the deck snapped at the base, my screen door blew off when I was closing it, lattice is peeling off the deck sides, the neighbours patio awning is in shreds, and the fence on the property opposite is about to come down. According to EC it was the worst winds on the cold front. 60mph gusts have been recorded on it. Otherwise the airport here has been measuring 50mph gusts before the front came through. The 19z metar will have the peak gust.
Geos
Last 2 showers had some graupel type precipitation mixed in with the heavier bursts! Was about 46° at the time. Makes the day a bit more interesting. Saw a 6" thick limb come crashing down within a foot of a parked pickup truck! Young leaves, other small limbs, & real estate signs flying through the air today! on_wx
If I'm reading this correctly, the max wind was 56 mph at 1816z. Doesn't specify if it is max gust so I assume this means 56 mph sustained. Correct me if I'm wrong. CYKF is about 10 miles south of here. trapperman
Welp according to both models he gets a few day torch when that trough on the coast ejects, would be fun to have the Hudson high knock everything south though, wouldn't it? One thing about this spring is there's something for everyone...
Hoosier
That storm around day 7 looks like it would produce some snow in the OV/eastern Lakes.

Toronto4
I just posted the potential storm in the Spring freeze thread. And I agree, it looks like someone could get snow out of it. Should be interesting to track.
