ezweather
Just a quick question here. I'm using the following site to build composites.. http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/composites/nssl/day/ For some reason, the list of analog dates won't take in this site. I loaded the file up, but it won't work. Not sure why its not working. Below is the sample file. I wanted to plot the analog years CPC had for their 6 to 10 Day outlook. But for some reason, I can't get the file to work. Typically, the first line would be the total dates and then followed by your list... 9 20060324 20010323 19560326 19630412 19620415 19660411 19580318 19670318 20010416 If anyone can provide some feedback that would be great. I know I had other files work, but for some reason, this batch won't work....
ORH_wxman
I just typed the dates into the spaces and it worked fine:
ezweather
Thanks for writing back quickly. Yeh, I guess you can do that instead of loading the file. Not sure why the file I uploaded didn't work.. Strange.. I just typed the dates into the spaces and it worked fine:

Is it possible that you absolutely need the space before the first line (since that's in the instructions)? So... 9 20060324 20010323 ... Not.. 9 20060324 20010323 ... http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/composites/day/details.day.html#datefile

donsutherland1
What's the error it's giving you? Is it possible that you absolutely need the space before the first line (since that's in the instructions)? No. I've run data files with and without spaces before the first line. I prefer to keep things consistent and avoid spaces before the first line. Extra spaces (e.g., after the "9") or after one of the dates (often .txt files are saved and there is an extra space after the last date; that space should be deleted and the file re-saved) are common problems. WxMidwest
I usually have a format like this, it's FORTRAN Formatted output... The count is a 4 Character Integer starting on the left side of Line1 So 21 will be 2 spaces, then 21 345 will be 1 space, then 345... ext The Datecodes are on following lines as 8 character integers starting from the left side. (space)(space)21 19530821 19580612 19601214 19640206 19640222 19640915 19650530 19651007 19710605 19730529 19780224 19780225 19840903 19841121 19871205 19930408 19930412 19980914 19991025 20070706 20071011 One wants to make sure you don't have excess tabs/spaces in the wrong areas or it will crap out.. Try not to have a weird or long filename as well, and keep a normal extension like .txt, .dat, .prn If you are wondering what the dates are, they are the absolute worst analogs for 12/5/1987 without using a seasonal filter. Generally times a massive Positive Ao/NAO and -PNA... Tell me if that helps, later...
