Scotty Lightning
I'm just curious to find the origin of it-how did it begin and could it eventually be copyrighted?
Quakertown needs snow
crap, the title made me click thinking the 12z euro run had a coastal with 6-12" for philly

Scotty Lightning
I just want to know who started the phrase? I waited until Winter(or the lack of Winter) was over.
dryslotted
I don't think you can really tie it back to an individual, its origin likely lies with the annual influx of weenies asking IMBY questions. I know when I first visited the Accuwx forums years ago, all the storm threads were littered with "how much for Philly?" posts...

phlwx
It's an old WWBB expression. Rib knows the lucky coiner...
Scotty Lightning
I gather you desire to do this? whoever wrote it down first would technically have the copyright to it. it'd be a fruitless gesture to try to make money off of it. Actually I don't want to copyright it, but I may want to use it in some capacity.
Rib
It wasn't just one poster who coined the term. It was a combination of weenies in the area hounding mets with that question. Blizz96 was probably the most well known.

phlwx
personally, I think it's a really hokey idea to use on radio all the time if that's what you're wondering. I'd avoid it unless there's a big snowstorm coming.
Grothar
Scott your gonna get the weenies going? How much for Philly on Easter weekend? I had to go there because there is no post for the weenies yet and since other groups on facebook are going hysterical now that JB is hinting a snow event. Voyager
I wouldn't use it at all. It's an esoteric term from an online weather community. Not exactly speaking to the masses here. Yeah, I doubt the general public would know (or care) about it's "significance" regarding a winter snow event.
greg ralls
It actually wouldn't be a bad signature phrase for a TV meteorologist in Philly to start using.

Storm At Sea
Actually, I suspect that this phrase was used way before WWBB and likely dates back to mIRC chats. People don't realize that mIRC (I believe it was #neweather or something of that sort) was one of the first means of discussing weather in a semi-organized fashion. Many of the individuals that spend time on this board were also on mIRC. I can think of at least a dozen off the top of my head. In any case, it was rather common for people to log on during the late 1990's and ask "how much for X city?" There was a large following of both NYC and Philly folks. JCT777
Blizz96 and then DaveInPhilly from WWBB were notorious for that question (How much for Philly?). Although I am sure - as mentioned by Storm At Sea - that question goes back even further.

NickD2011
There would be a serious discussion about the models on a WWBB thread, and the weenies who don't understand the model's output would ask "How much for Philly" http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?/topic/102652-origin-of-how-much-for-philly/
