Geos
Guidance saying 28° here tonight. Temperatures will be about 1° higher then this time yesterday before the drop began. I think the NAM is under estimating lows tonight.
knitwx
Will be interesting to see how much damage there was around here. I'd estimate the greenout is at early to mid May levels. That and lows in the 20's don't mix very well. Last night finished off our apples, cherries, raspberries, blackberries and most of the strawberries. daddylonglegs
53F right now...last night at this time we were nearly 15F colder... I've noticed that everything has just stopped growing the last week or so. The trees got smart and put a brake on things. I still see some trees that are just barely leafing out (black walnuts). Geos
Last night finished off our apples, cherries, raspberries, blackberries and most of the strawberries. That's unfortunate. I don't have any raspberries or strawberries coming up here yet. I think the coolness from the lake kept those starting too early. Correction: I do have a handful of small strawberry plants that have come up. They look ok though. 40° to start at sunset. DLL: the Oak trees are doing nothing here yet! Totally oblivious to the warmup last month!
daddylonglegs
I don't have any oaks in this neighborhood. Its all maples (yuck), black walnuts.... If you want to read about Michigan crops, they had an update yesterday: http://news.msue.msu...t_april_10_2012 Some good, some bad... think it'll take some time to figure out the losses. Nic
Dew point is in upper 20s low 30s which will probably keep temperatures from falling that much.
Geos
33.5° here now. 1.5° warmer then this time yesterday. Forecasted low still the same at 28°. ...coldest location within 50 miles. NAM overdoing the lake warming again on the western shoreline.
BowMeHunter
waukegan should def get below their low of 30 last night and be below freezing for longer.
cyclone77
Still 39 here, but I'm sure temps will tank like crazy after midnight like they have the last several nights. NWS point has been lowered to 24 I see. That's a pretty hard freeze. This morning's 26 didn't look like it did too much damage that I could see, but I don't think it was that cold for very long. csnavywx
Wobbled back and forth above and below freezing for about 3 hours. Some frost, but no real freeze last night, so it looks like we might be the near the northernmost extent of the decent fruit tree crop this year.
