Nic
NWS out of La Crosse: Guy on another forum used a sprinkler last night to protect his best tree...ended up breaking it in half ...temp dropped to 25F where he lives in Iowa. I think you can only do that to certain trees.
BowMeHunter
With a north wind maybe the warm waters of Lake Onalaska will torch la crosse. could def see Viroqua flirting with mid-20's
daddylonglegs
LOTS of apples growing down by Viroqua...hopefully not. Lake Onalaska? Not sure..its like 20ft deep at most...i guess if you live along the shore you probably get a bump. 46F now...temp is blazing upwards

Chicago WX
Just looked at the numbers for the West Lafayette COOP, going back to 1954, and here's the last Spring dates for hard freezes (28 degrees or lower) and "regular" freezes (29 to 32 degrees). I used 28 degrees as a hard freeze as per the Illinois State Climatologist website. Some years will have the same date, as a 28 degree or lower temperature was the last freezing temperature. Dates highlighted in blue indicate latest such date for each column, and those highlighted in red indicate earliest last for each.

Nic
Cooling now evap cooling taking place as showers move in 38 already, maybe they shouldn't have canceled the freeze warning for central Ohio.

Geos
That's exactly what's gonna happen since these clouds are driven by solar heating. 850 temps are starting to warm too which will help get rid of the clouds quicker. 41 °F as of 2 pm and solar radiation is decreasing since we're 1+ hour past solar noon. Probably not gonna get much warmer. That's exactly what's going on. About 5pm they started to break a bit. Temperature didn't go up to speak of, even with a little sun. High 41° today...7° under guidance. Freeze warnings down to the shore counties now. Dewpoint 17°. I'm gonna call 28° for a low tonight here. 7pm: Clouds bookin' it outta here. 39°. Chicago WX
44/19 at 8PM. Not sure how LAF will botch this one, but have to think sub 30 is a fairly solid bet at this point.
michsnowfreak
Snowflakes filled the air off and on pretty much all day today throughout SE MI, despite temps hovering in that upper 30s to low 40s range. Everyone was texting me all day "its snowing", but of course I was at work and didnt get to really see much lol. But did get this shot of the TV of snow falling during this afternoon's Tigers game. Nic
Clouds clearing out, I hope the winds will be enough to keep temperatures up. It is sill very windy out. I don't think it will get to cold but it will be the longer duration then the other freezes that did not damage anything too badly.
turtlehurricane
38 °F at the airport, 40 °F closer to the lakes. Won't take much cooling to get to freezing.
Geos
Doh, already 33° imby. Neighbors were out just before sunset covering up various plants. Probably hit freezing by 9:15 at this rate. There's some decent sized fruit orchards west of here. There probably not going to fair very well tonight.
Chicago WX
38/19 at LAF. Goshen and South Bend already at freezing at 10PM.
Geos
32° at 9:05pm here. 31° now. Dewpoint: 20° Looks to be below freezing a good 10 hours tonight! 0z knocked the temp down a degree or two for the area. ORD looks to get below 30. ...I think MKX needs to include their eastern counties in the freeze warning!
daddylonglegs
NAM better not be right...
Geos
I think the NAM will be right on target around here. Down to a frosty 30.3° here. ...Although I wouldn't be surprised to see a 27 or 26° temperature in the county somewhere. Some clouds over the lake are moving south, but they look to stay over the lake.
hawkeye_wx
Des Moines has lowered central Iowa to low 20s, several degrees below what the NAM is spitting out. Ames and Marshalltown hit 23 or 24 this morning, so that should be a pretty easy target tonight.
Geos
29.8° at 11pm. Mid 20s are sounding like a better bet now. Dewpoint has been holding the upper teens since sunset. I see down in Lafayette it is closing in on freezing already.

cyclone77
34 here, with a dew of 20. We've had a history of late night temp crashes here lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if we still make the mid 20s.
