B-Rent
Was down in Missouri all week, I would say in the ozarks they are at 90%+ foliage. Drove around up here some today, and it seems like only the smaller trees have full leaves. The big trees may be budding, but they aren't fully developed yet. Trent
Couldn't even dip below 40 here! That's what 45 degree water will do. Even CLE several miles inland could only muster 36. I think we're done with freezes until November here.
Jonger
How does next week not end up colder then this: High pressure, stronger, roughly the same position... ??? The cold is definitely beginning to modify on the gfs. Looks a tad colder then today, but nothing historic.
daddylonglegs
MKE only hit 31F...lake saved them...MSP only dropped to 37F (heat island)... MSP MONDAY AND TUESDAY STILL LOOK LIKE THE COOLEST OF DAYS IN THE 7-DAY FORECAST. THE 06.00Z ECMWF ACTUALLY HAS THE -10C 850MB CONTOUR IN THE NORTHERN FORECAST AREA BY MONDAY AFTERNOON. I HAVEN`T SEEN THAT SINCE FEBRUARY. AS A RESULT...SHOULD BE PLENTY OF 40S FOR HIGHS EARLY NEXT WEEK. LOWS WILL ULTIMATELY BE TIED TO THE AMOUNT OF WIND AND CLOUDS COVER...BUT 2M TEMPS CERTAINLY SUGGEST WIDESPREAD LOWER 30S. BELIEVE WE`LL SEE OUR FAIR SHARE OF UPPER 20S IN MN/WI DURING THE FIRST HALF NEXT WEEK AS WELL.

Yeah, we're almost fully leafed out here. Looks like May outside. The magnolias are long gone and even the dogwoods are about to wrap it up. DLL asked how it couldn't be colder: 1) Low-level moderation/lack of snowpack 2) Differing source region for air mass Overall, it may be pretty similar to today's temps. Mid-April sun is vicious on low level cold air masses, especially on snow-free terrain. Yesterday's Euro was pretty ridiculous.

daddylonglegs
2 more stories on Michigan crops and how they are trying to protect it: http://www.wzzm13.com/rss/article/206268/14/Local-apple-farmers-sitting-on-edge?odyssey=obinsite http://www.wzzm13.com/news/article/207871/14/Fruit-farmers-fight-cold-and-frost Sounds like these guys are spending huge amounts of money (and time) to protect their crop. Another reason why high tunnels might make more sense in some areas. The Chinese grow a huge amount of peaches under plastic.
Geos
Low of 30° here this morning. Had frost on the grass this morning. Some on the roofs. Neighbors Magnolia tree got hit pretty good. The side closest to the brick of the house looks like it faired better. A few locations just west and north of me got down into the upper 20s. Looks like some cold readings around Madison - down to 26° in De Forest. ~~Now I know that the NAM model overdoes the marine influence along the lake.
