Forest Fire Thread- SNE-Updated for summer drought/torch

Damage In Tolland

Recommended Posts

Fire around here is meh. Then again 15 years in southern California gives one an entirely different perspective. Driving on an LA freeway at night seeing flames ring the nearby hills coming in towards the city does change one's ideas. And that scenario happens at least once most years.

yeah, no kidding, i lived in the Sacramento area and would have days buried in smoke

Major problems as the drought worsens

MONDAY...MAIN CONCERN WILL BE FIRE WEATHER. REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH

RAIN FALLS TODAY...AND CURRENT THINKING IS DEFINITELY LESS THAN A

QUARTER OF AN INCH FOR MOST LOCATIONS...CONDITIONS ARE STILL VERY

DRY ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. WHILE TEMPERATURES WILL DROP

MONDAY MUCH LOWER THAN THE RECORD HEAT EXPERIENCED LAST WEEK...

DEWPOINTS ALSO DROP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS BEHIND THE COLD FRONT.

THIS PUTS THE MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES INTO THE 15 TO 20

PERCENT RANGE. IN ADDITION...STRONG LOW LEVEL WINDS AND A TIGHT

PRESSURE GRADIENT COUPLED WITH EXCELLENT MIXING AND STRONG COLD

ADVECTION WILL RESULT IN STRONG...GUSTY WINDS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW

ENGLAND FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. EXPECT SUSTAINED WINDS BLOWING 20 TO

25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH. THESE CONDITIONS WILL NEED TO

BE MONITORED FOR POSSIBLE FIRE WEATHER HEADLINES...DEPENDING ON

HOW MUCH RAIN OCCURS TODAY. SEE FIRE WEATHER DISCUSSION BELOW.

stupid kids lit a decent size brush fire over the weekend in what looked like there parents yard, they live next to a nature preserve....idiots....it didn't make news or anything but its 1 street over from me, looked like they were twigs and such but clearly when I drove by it was out of control, burning around trees and such. Half their yard and the border of the nature preserve is scorched earth now, they got lucky to say the least.

Today could be a black day in NE history..Hopefully not the case

.FIRE WEATHER...

EXTREMELY DRY AIR EXPECTED TODAY AS DEWPOINTS DROP BELOW ZERO...

RESULTING IN RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES FALLING TO 10 TO 20 PERCENT

ACROSS MOST OF INTERIOR SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THIS COMBINED WITH

GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 30 MPH WILL RESULT IN AN ELEVATED

RISK OF FIRE SPREAD. RED FLAG WARNINGS HAVE BEEN POSTED.

cool web site i stumbled upon awhile back for you guys to look at.

http://www.capecodfd...in/Features.htm

This Webpage reminded me of something out of the 90s when people would design their personal Webpages and put EVERYTHING on one page so it's impossible to move around an takes forever to load. It had everything from flashing lights and text to pictures and ubiquitous links to every site under the sun.

Kind of weird...like a weenie porno site for "Sparkys."

I just love anything that causes havoc or excitement.

I love seeing areas have crazy things happen to them out of the ordinary whether it be weather, or other events. Crazy events bring out the best in communities too IMO.

Have you ever humped an Indian Tank deep into the brush during a spring brush fire with winds whipping in all directions with fire jumping around? Crazy stuff.
