ski MRG
Well, it looks like the 2012 Golf season is off to an early start here in New England. After a successful ski season thread which garnered many great contributions, both photos and stories, I thought it would be good to have a place to post warm season recreational pictures and banter. I hope we get some cool fishing pics as well as golf and hiking shots. Also, this summer hopefully we'll get some good paragliding pics or perhaps some intrepid poster will skydive and share the experience. Also, I think we should welcome Messenger ahead of his first entry in this thread. Of course many of you know him as the Prophet of Doom and I'm sure he'll live up to that advanced billing. Whether we are plagued by drought, heavy rain, locust swarms or even just tranquil weather, Messenger will keep us posted on just how miserable the situation is and how soon we can expect the complete collapse of the golf industry. So much to look forward to!! Anyway, played golf for the second time this season this afternoon. Just 9, hit a 38, +4, yikes. Bas Ridge in Hinsdale, Ma is a fun track. Shot from #1 Tee, Mt Greylock out on the horizon. OK GO!!!!!

Bookings are strong for summer rentals on the Cape and the early season business has been good. Not only are the courses opening earlier across most of the country they're in great shape due to the lack of snow. Just a sampling... I don't pretend to know what the rest of spring and summer is going to bring, but I do know whatever guess I take, I can't do any worse than your winter predictions. http://www.thetimesherald.com/article/20120314/SPORTS/303140006/Golf-Courses-get-early-start-season http://wcfcourier.com/business/local/warm-weather-puts-area-golf-courses-in-the-green/article_0d819b06-6edd-11e1-8e7a-0019bb2963f4.html http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/news/x1014037359/Mild-winter-gives-MetroWest-golf-courses-a-shotgun-start

Huge no, many of these folks will take you tandem for free. Cliffs are rated, and you have to be/are supposed to be rated for each cliff so you don't hurt yourself or someone else. cheetah440
shot 79 monday afternoon with 5 birdies, horrifying. sweet. I love shooting 79, 5 birdies and having 4 of them hold up. More like shooting "$280" ;-) The worst is shooting 71 with only 1 birdie and having it cut.
cheetah440
Short course and I know it very well. 5 bogeys, 3pars and a birdie. Still have to get it in the hole. First few times out, bogeys are almost like pars. I say well done! I'm still trying to dial in my driver and working on shortening my backswing. It can cause some pretty funny results. Really need to shorten it as my overswinging isn't helping my body, doesn't really add any length to my drives anyway and unless my timing is really on, doesn't help with accuracy. But it's damn hard, I've read online that is is one of the more difficult changes to make. But I really have no choice.
mreaves
A lot of years my first couple of times out are decent (for me) low 40's type scores. It's like I have forgotten my bad habits over winter, but they always come back with a vengence.

Clinch Leatherwood
You have a real command of the google box.lol Or I live 100 yards from one of the cliffs and am up there watching them 10-15 days a year for the last 8 years, having drinks by the fire with them on the beach after they're done etc. You'll recognize the cliff from many of the snow shots over the years. They fly directly over the cliff where a lot of the ocean shots/videos have been taken the last 8 or 9 years. This isn't a beginners cliff, it's one of the toughest in the State. Hoping some day to learn enough that I'd qualify to take advantage of the resource at my feet. Even though it's right here, I can't learn here, far too dangerous. The spot they take off and land is tiny, you'll see that in the photos below.
Clinch Leatherwood
Here's the cliff they launch from covered in snow a month or so ago and here they are I think last fall entertaining my kids. They're a great group many from around the world that are willing to take anyone up tandem at just about any time. This is one of the things I'll be checking off the list this year. People come from all over the region/country to paraglide here, time I got qualified. If anyone was interested, just show up on the right wind days and almost guaranteed they'll take you for a tandem ride and you can decide whether or not you like it. Clinch Leatherwood
Another one, I haven't seen these guys in a year or so. There's a ton of foreigners that come here just for this, it's cool. Like I said this is the year I get qualified. In this video they're flying from White Cliff (Plymouth MA) down to about Sagamore Beach proper and turning around. And from the launch point. It's about a 100 foot drop if they mess up, the cliffs they fly over max out at 130-150.
Clinch Leatherwood
Last one, usually you don't see the hangliders and paragliders mixed in. Some days we do. The hangliders usually end up WAY higher as you see in the video. Nice shot of the White Cliff golf course too.
ski MRG
Played a quick 9 this afternoon. The Bas Ridge is actually in good shape. Still some snow on the course but the greens are rolling nicely. Mostly dry as well.

Fishing, golf, any sport that has a relationship with the weather as long as it's not baseball. We wouldn't want the reader to be put to sleep. Apparently there's one school in VT and one in NY that certifiy for HG. I'm being told the best bet is to take a short vacation to California (few days) where the weather is consistent for getting trained, certs etc. Then it's a matter of working through the levels so that I can land on the cliff here without crashing through someones roof like the Kool Aid guy or taking out another person. Paragliders are here much less frequently which makes me think it's less predictable in terms of weather/more dependent on certain conditions.
