The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread, Part III

Mother nature is giving me the middle finger this year. No winter. Now a piss-poor severe Wx season. At least make it a cool summer.

Well I wouldn't get upset over the upcoming severe wx season just yet.

If we see a similar pattern setup later this spring and into the summer we could see lots of potential for MCS's or perhaps even some good squall line potential, especially out in NY.

I love squall lines, I had one spawn a EF1 tornado in my town a few years ago. Was awesome. The 3 days without power was 100% worth it.

I also see a few good ones when I'm at my families house in the Catskills.

I would love a really good squall line...I remember growing up in the 90's every summer it seemed we'd have some very good squall lines plow through...of course though (at least in CT) once they would get to the River they would completely fall apart. These lines would develop in western PA/NY and travel all the way to SNE.

We don't see all that much severe Wx here on long island the cool ocean kills most events. But this year I hope is differnt because of the warmer than normal SST's.

I didn't realize you lived on Long Island...that blows.

I've always wondered exactly how much of a factor/role much warmer than normal SST's would have. I know it certainly would decrease the strength of the marine layer and would also possibly add to low-level moisture.

The best setups you want living there and for eastern SNE is cold pool alofts...like we saw in 2008...with those setups living near the coast really doesn't hurt you.

Now that he's lost all his hair the aging process can kick in to high gear. Soon Kev will only come to GTGs held in warm weather months and even then you'll see him sitting in the corner with a shawl on. The snow was just too punishing last year and he's now realizing he needs to move to Drydock, Fla.

Queue Eric--it is shawl weather. It took until about 2:00 or a little later yesterday (iirc) to hit 70*. Very comfortable--with the shawl.

Frozen yogurt is like decaf coffee

Kimballs ftw

Richardsons ftw

Calico & Creme ftw

Meola's ftw

Agree on Meola's. We' d hit that frequently when we lived in Worcester.

Up here, the Town Line Creamy on the Greenfield/Bernardston line was great. Ridiculously large servings of Gibson's at a ridculously low cost. They never opened last year though. What a disappointment.

Looks like mid-70's on tap for today here.

49.9/49

Ice cream stands FTW.

There's an ice cream shop here in the Old Port that is closed during the winter months. Yesterday I noticed workers there tidying up and they had a sign in the window saying they were re-opening on Friday ... talk about poor timing. 70s and 80s for days and days until their shop opens, when it returns to 50s.

55F/54

Probably the warmest low I have had since September

Looking back we had a warm stretch in late September with lows in the low 60s. It "cooled" off after that but there was one night where the low was 52° in mid-October and I matched that low this morning. Kind of crazy if you think about. I'd expect this kind of low in March during a rain storm where we warm sector but not under clear skies!

Friday is also the opener for all the Gifford's places, too. Without this mega-torch, I'd think they would be well satisfied with 50s for a late March opening day - it's still about +15, even if 20F colder than the day before.
