This torch is historic.

Almost as historic as the October snowstorm but only on a national scale.

Just amazing.

I'd say this is more historic because of the scale. The October snowstorm didn't affect that large of an area. Tough call since both events are as extreme as it gets on their respective scales.

We absolutely need a week or so of normal to below. I'm with Ginx on this one, that this is not natural and will have consequences. Either a new virus will appear and we'll all be doing a Walking Dead impression by July, west nile, road rage, locusts...something. We need to take it down a notch for a bit and we need rain. This has been fun, but it's March and this is getting silly.

Posted these in the ski thread, but figure they should go in the torch thread, too...

Here's a comparison of a location at roughly 2,500ft of elevation in the northern Green Mountains between Monday and today (Wednesday). This is what happens when the temperature does not drop below 50F. Down here in town we've dropped into the upper 30s and lower 40s at night, but up higher where the diurnal temperature swings are less, the temperature has stayed in the 50F-65F range for 4 days straight now. That has catastrophic effects on a natural snowpack.

Monday...

Wednesday...

And thank God for man-made snow... you'll never see this again hopefully in our lifetimes... higher elevations in the snowiest part of New England (northern Greens) practically bare, with the exception of the man-made snow ribbons down the trails. Luckily man-made snow is like 6:1 ratio cement that does not melt easily.

Agree. This is getting old.

The anomalous positive temperature departures have helped the insect population boom early but lack of rain can help keep that in check, especially as far as ticks and mosquitoes are concerned, so dry is better at this point despite the fire dangers.

after doing yard work today i had an itch and when i scratched it i felt something and looked to see what it was and it was a tick I cant stand those things

When I was at work yesterday changing light bulbs and ceiling tiles with someone while sweeping up, I noticed something and it kept moving, I looked down and thought it was a spider and I took a pic and posted on facebook asking what kind of spider it was...turns out a few people said it looks like a tick.

Only when there in my house unless they are HUGE.

When I was at school at Lyndon State I was taking an art class and we went to some museum that was in some beat up old house...I was walking through the basement of it with the class looking at different art stuff and in one of the windows was a HUGE, HUGE spider...like a recluse. I said screw this and I ran outside and waited for the class to come out to head back to the school.

I have gotten a tad better though...up until like 2 years ago I wouldn't even kill them but then after a while my brother got annoyed and stopped doing it so I had to do it myself. Although if I see something massive I'll ask my mom to do it...although I haven't done that in a while...I've found a way to use a broom/mop to kill it.

I used to be terrified of bees and spiders but that was when I was 6

When I was 8 or 9 i took a daddy long leg spider, pulled off its legs and put it on my sister while she was sleeping, it was funny as f**k.

Well if we don't get any rain soon we will certainly have brush fire problems later in the spring.

I think that if we do not get a decent amount of rain in the spring, we will have a very poor severe Wx season and that will worsen the drought(if we have one) and that will be because there will be very little lower level humidity due to a very dry soil.

Too be kind of honest I do kind of believe it could be a very quiet spring/summer in terms of rain and t'storms...doesn't mean we can't get a shot at a big severe wx event but the spring/summer could be rather boring.

Mother nature is giving me the middle finger this year. No winter. Now a piss-poor severe Wx season. At least make it a cool summer.
