Rainshadow
Yeah, Dr. Hart's paper hypothesized that more recurving tropical systems in the warm season decreased the overall hemispheric baroclinicity in the cold season. I wanted to e-mail him and ask him how last season would have qualified, from the Unisys site, it looked like nearly every tropical system lost tropical characteristics just south of 40N in the Pacific, if not there were a boatload of recurvatures last tropical system. I never realized a "B" becomes a .
donsutherland1
At the beginning of this thread, I noted that I felt that the JAMSTEC Autumn 2012 forecast from March 1 was suspect. Below is the March forecast: Below is the most recent forecast from August:
Analog96
I hope it's not like 1957. That December was really mild up in Ontario. JB always goes for the most extreme, as I'm sure you know. There's no way we get a winter even close to 1976-77. That was a once-in-a-lifetime event, as was 1993-94. 17 years? That's a pretty short lifetime! Ginx snewx
1995-96 was pretty cold and very snowy, and featured more recurving storms than normal. Many folks disputed the results of that paper, it was however Mid Atlantic centric in the results. Somehow folks now quote it as him meaning everyone on the East coast. Analog96
Dude, quit being obnoxious. No, the expression "once in a lifetime" is obnoxious. Terms like that are used all the time, and the reality is, if none of us move far from where we are right now, and we're under 50 years old, assuming we live a reasonably long life, we'll all see at least 10 more "once in a lifetime" events before we die.
