daddylonglegs
We were watching a bumble bee work the sweet cherry blossoms this morning.... The trees are just loaded with flowers (I have 4). I believe this is a Lapins. Sweet cherries have the best smelling flowers (IMO) of the fruit trees. Plums would be right up there...very floral... roardog
The green up basically came to a halt here after the "heat" of March.
Geos
The green up basically came to a halt here after the "heat" of March. For the most part same here. Grass is still growing though!
cyclone77
Area trees are already loaded with leaves. Elms have already seeded out, and leaf clusters really starting to take off now. Already mowed once, and will have to again in the next few days. Probably would have already mowed several times by now if we actually got some rain. knitwx
Some of my strawberries are now blooming. If they make it to harvest I will be very surprised.
michsnowfreak
Was stopped at a redlight tonight around 7:15pm, and noticed the sky looked really cool, so I snapped a pic. You can see how it truly looks like spring, even after several frosts/freezes after the March "heatwave". It was dormant winter last year at this time. Geos
With the cooler weather this month, plants around here slowed down. Birch tree leaves have come out the furthest. Lots of shrubs have full or near full leaves on them now. Maple and now oak starting to come out a bit more. Given the slow up, I think around here things are about 10 days ahead of schedule only now. At least tree-wise.
cyclone77
My Siberian Elm in the back had become very loaded with seeds early on. Now that it has completely unloaded it's bumper crop of seeds it's pretty much completely bare again. The leaves are very few and far between, and quite small. I think the cool period has slowed the otherwise quick transition from seed deposition to leaf growth. The other area trees that don't seed out as much or not at all have completely leafed out and are way ahead of schedule. It's kind of weird to see surrounding trees all leafed out and then the Siberian Elm that looks dead. For example, the American Elm (a MUCH higher quality Elm) out front had way less of a seed crop and it's pretty much leafed out and ahead of schedule.
