The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread, Part II

it's hard to even wrap your mind around what's going on right now.

you go outside, walk around...it's 70F-80F around the area...and you think "what a nice day" but then you remember that's it's mid-march. it's easier for it to snow this time of year than do what it's doing.

the coastal obs from PVC to BOS up into Maine are mind-boggling. if someone showed you just the boston ob and not the date, you'd guess late June. LOL.

Yeah and it's only Monday. The fact that we have this level of heat going on for a week in March is incredible. The only other time I can remember like this was in '98 but that was only for a couple of days at the end of March.

It's the unusual kind of weather like this that got me interested in weather when I was a kid and keeps my attention, that's for sure!

Forsythia has started - and I noticed an azalea starting to bloom on Sunday.

Quince, daffodils, spring witch hazel, shrub honeysuckle, a couple of cherry trees have started. Maple trees have red flower clusters.

Some of these things had started to bloom during a warm spell earler in the winter - so everything is blooming at odd times.

any forsythia in bloom down there? That is usually the first sign. Then everything goes a couple of days later!

GON's record for today is 59 set back on 3/19/2010. GTNC3's (Groton coop) record a couple miles inland is also 59 set back in 2001. The coop's records go back to the late-50s.

I reached a very brief high of 70 in Old Lyme today (2 miles inland) for the first time since Oct 14, but now quickly falling back through the 60s.

Oh okay cool, yeah I was on wunderground and it said 56F in 1986, but its not always right. Yeah my house was 71F for a good while, but has since dropped back down to 68F.

Hopefully getting my Davis online by the summer! :)

Crushing, throttling, and pooping on the old record.. Maybe add another degree...

Relentless

THURSDAY...HIGH CONFIDENCE.

THE STAGE IS SET FOR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES TO BE SMASHED AT ALL

FOUR MAJOR CLIMATE SITES. IN FACT...ITS POSSIBLE THAT SOME

LOCATIONS RECORD THEIR WARMEST READINGS EVER FOR SO EARLY IN THE

SEASON!

Pretty legit convection south of Berlin, NH now. It's got reflectivity consistent with graupel above the freezing level, so a couple lightning strikes won't be surprising.

Loop the visable of New England and you can see the Cu being eating away in SE New Hampshire as the cool air is coming in from the east.

Historic. Phil you've been OTC much longer than me, but this is stunning near the water. As Scott says gentle east wind here now and 70+. That's the nice thing about all these torch days we're rapidly warming the water...46 now offshore which is staggering for March.

Hail there?

Don't think so, maybe a couple peas but the high reflectivity hasn't been able to get much more than a couple thousand over the freezing level at best.

Sea breeze has certainly stabilized the boundary layer there. Pneumonia front has come through Portland now, down to 56.
