I am actually really looking forward to that. March madness starts Friday with day off from work and drinking all day and night..and then a summerlike weekend full of shorts, tees, and bikinis FTW

powderfreak
Unbelievable stretch of days in a row upcoming there. And that is really the most impressive part to me. I peeked at the St. Johnsbury high temperature records in March since that goes back to 1894, and it does appear that the record max's make a jump from low-mid 60s to between 70-75 on the 19th and beyond. (some 80s at the tail end of the month). On the other side of the Greens, Rutland goes back 96 years and I see record highs in the upper 70s to low 80s as early as March 15-17th (Then there is a lull in the upper 60s-low 70s from the 18th-21st that will be shattered pretty well this week). So this does suggest that an early season "heat wave" akin to this upcoming stretch has occurred at some point in the past 100 or so years (likely early 1900s). MOST climate sites that will see the multiple days in a row of 10-15º record shattering heat, such as Montpelier, only have records back to ~1948. I would say enjoy your heat, however, I realize that it is probably very unwelcome to a guy with the name "powderfreak"! Haha I'm going to enjoy it because I'm a human and after a long, dark, NNE winter... sunshine until 7pm is very much welcomed. Its not ideal for my love of skiing, but this week will be one long party at the ski resort. Grills are already going in the parking lot and the UVM kids will start to roll in by late morning. Music bumping, smells of cooking meat, soft spring bump runs, girls in bikinis... its a beach on snow. But back to the original point... yeah I figured we had something similar back early in the 1900s based on St J's records around 1903. Burlington and Rutland are sort of anomalies around here because they just bake in the Champlain Valley and can get "heat" waves (not by definition) a lot earlier in the season than interior VT. What I think will be amazing is the temperatures achieved in interior VT east of the Green Mountain Spine... I know Montpelier records only go back to the late 40s, but they will be destroyed this week and MPV is the closest thing to a record site that many of us interior VTers in the 800-1,300ft elevation range have. ski MRG
You could be one of the warmer spots today. Are you heading up to MRG, looks like this weekend is it? Great week for golf coming up, let me know if you are in. Well, it's cool and dank right now and the temps are going nowhere if this mank doesn't burn off. I'll be at MRG tomorrow. I'm in ski mode, I will be putting in heavy heavy hours the next few weeks as I'm going to be in AK at the end of April and there is much to do before I go. Golf is a pale substitute for skiing. Also, there is no reason to celebrate anything until the cold and snow return at the end of the month. This weather is horrific and it is the final straw that has forced me to make concrete plans to move to AK.
moneypitmike
Congrats. What did you get for the machine? 43.0/42F A Deere D140. It's got a 48" cutting width. My current has a 42 which is way too small. In fact, I could go bigger, but given some of the terrain and obstacles, I went with the 48". For the stove, going with another Jotel FC3B. This will be our third one--so I guess we're believers.

moneypitmike
44 and overcast Yup--lack of sun is going to really hold things back. 41.7/40. Forecast high of 55* in jeopardy? In prep for the warmth, just added the screen to the deck slider. Just in case it's needed in the next couple days.

Clinch Leatherwood
45 here now, not really crappy unless you were expecting it to be +20. Clearing evident now coming down from the NE, very bright skies to the east. Should hit 50 here today which isn't too shabby. I do hope the sun comes out. I'll be on the couch rehydrating Sunday. HoarfrostHubb
Blizz hacked BOX again: TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...HIGH CONFIDENCE AWAY FROM IMMEDIATE COAST. ANOMALOUS UPPER LEVEL RIDGING ACROSS NEW ENGLAND WILL BRING NEAR RECORD BREAKING WARMTH AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE COAST. HIGHS SHOULD TOP OUT IN THE 70S ACROSS THESE LOCATIONS MUCH OF THE PERIOD. IN FACT...ITS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE THAT SOME OF THE REGION EXCEEDS 80 DEGREES ONE OR TWO DAYS! THE FORECAST ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST REMAINS UNCERTAIN. THE POTENTIAL FOR NEAR RECORD WARMTH WILL BE POSSIBLE WHEN THE GRADIENT IS STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERCOME SEA BREEZES. THE PROBLEM IS ITS JUST TOO EARLY TO TRY TO MAKE A CALL ON WHICH DAYS WILL OR WILL NOT FEATURE SEA BREEZES...SO WILL TEMPER HIGHS A BIT ON THE COAST. NONETHELESS...EVEN ON THE COAST WOULD THINK AT LEAST ONE OF THE DAYS WILL BE QUITE WARM.
