The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread, Part II

How can you possibly not have a lifetime supply of wood by now? When you say you're cutting and splitting do you cut and split 3 pcs and then retire for the day?

LOL. We burned 4-5 cords this winter. We also brought three more fireplaces into operation in the last couple months. We'll likely be putting a stove in one of them. So, my expecation is we'll become 90% wood heated in the coming cycle. Gonna require a lot of sticks to heat 3000sf for 5 months.

Bottom line, lots of cutting/splitting/stacking. Never ending.

You could be one of the warmer spots today. Are you heading up to MRG, looks like this weekend is it? Great week for golf coming up, let me know if you are in.

Joe, this is your week to shine

Post pics of yards blooming and the beach

Even with 70s and sun up here, yards and woods are still brown and dormant

LOL you will be much warmer than I but my lawn is as green as the shamrock that scooter posted. Should be a wonderful week for everyone before mother nature returns us back to reality next weekend. What will your beer of choice be today? We are walking over to the Colony Grille for some pints of Guiness.

The grass here is as drab as it ever is.......I was telling my daughter how when it does green, it's almost like someone throwing a switch. We'll see if that happens this week (not sure how much it's temp dependent vs. length of day, etc.)

Meanwhile, in the spirit of bi-polar thinking, I'll be picking up the new tractor and the new wood stove today. Must be nearly spring in New England.

At least up here, the record highs are going to be comical. The closest thing BTV can find to this is a stretch of 70 degree days at Saint Johnsbury in the northeast kingdom in 1903. They are forecasting record highs for 5 days in a row at every site, and not just by a couple degrees but by like 10-15F above the RECORDS (not normal).

I find that amazing... 1 in 100 year heat event for this time period based on the records that go back that far.

Unbelievable stretch of days in a row upcoming there. And that is really the most impressive part to me.

I peeked at the St. Johnsbury high temperature records in March since that goes back to 1894, and it does appear that the record max's make a jump from low-mid 60s to between 70-75 on the 19th and beyond. (some 80s at the tail end of the month). On the other side of the Greens, Rutland goes back 96 years and I see record highs in the upper 70s to low 80s as early as March 15-17th (Then there is a lull in the upper 60s-low 70s from the 18th-21st that will be shattered pretty well this week). So this does suggest that an early season "heat wave" akin to this upcoming stretch has occurred at some point in the past 100 or so years (likely early 1900s). MOST climate sites that will see the multiple days in a row of 10-15º record shattering heat, such as Montpelier, only have records back to ~1948.

I would say enjoy your heat, however, I realize that it is probably very unwelcome to a guy with the name "powderfreak"!

I will have several kinds tonight, but not too many. We will be at a community theater play with the kids. I have some Guiness, but will probably keep chipping away at the Smuttynose sampler I bought last weekend. Up early Sunday to ski at Sunapee. Might be my last runs of the season

Congrats. What did you get for the machine?

So our long-time ski patrol director was telling me he remembers a similar situation back in 1979-80 where we ran out of snow in mid-March... closed for the end of March (that's the only year this place has run out of snow in March)...then got 2-3 feet of snow in early April and opened back up again for skiing around Easter.

Maybe.....

What year?
