Jim_in_CA
Hello from the MA Forum ! My mom has never been to the Pacific NW so I have been contemplating taking her out there this summer. Would be a pretty major 2 week trip - likely time frame between June 28 and July 14. Most of the trip would be Seattle / Olympic Peninsula / Vancouver Island / Vancouver. I know much of this area is generally quite gorgeous in the summer. That said - I know La Nina tends to be wetter than normal in the NW. I know it's early but I'm wondering if you guys in the Central / West forum might have some VERY general ideas on how summer is looking. Is it looking like Nina is going to stay put or might a more "dry friendly" PAC pattern evolve? Any thoughts would be appreciated. As I said, this would be a big (and expensive) trip, so I'm trying to pick the best time to go. If "signs" are pointing to a blah summer up there... would rather put it off a year! Well it's almost impossible to get any real prolonged rainy spell after early June, regardless of ENSO. There may be a slight preference for cooler/cloudier weather this summer, but ENSO just doesn't have a big impact on summer weather in the northwest, so it's hard to say for sure. Just look at the first two weeks of July the past 5 years to get a good sense of the 'variety' of weather you can expect in that time frame. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2011/7/1/MonthlyHistory.html http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2010/7/1/MonthlyHistory.html http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2009/7/1/MonthlyHistory.html http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2008/7/1/MonthlyHistory.html http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2007/7/1/MonthlyHistory.html
Jim_in_CA
Thanks Mallow! I went ahead and made the reservations. July can't often be gorgeous, but not always of course as you mention, I'm hoping it holds this year
