ORH_wxman
I'd say parts of NNE..maybe even CNE have a decent shot at some snow next week...maybe Thursday or so. GFS/GEFS looks good for them next week...Euro/Euro ensemble was further south and actually looked ok for interior SNE...that was a pretty decent shift south though, so we'll have to see if that was a just a blip. Yeah I took that into consideration...but just saying as a first guess. Hopefully the euro was correct.
ctsnowstorm628
Higher elevations in NNE look great right now late week next week. Could be an overnight event too, so the valleys may get it on it too up here. 850's at -8C at night with precip will do it up here.
weatherMA
The cold shot for Monday night and Tuesday has trended pretty impressive. MEX has a low of 21F at ORH already for Mon night and 24F for Tue night....even has BOS into the 20s on Mon night. Rude awakening incoming. Sitting out side for lunch all week in 75-80F wx in Mid March was surreal...people think that's it for sitting inside for the year, ha. Good luck with that. tamarack
I'd love to see the W.E. equivalents on the snow. This piqued my curiosity. Farmington, Maine has recorded 31 storms with 18"+ snowfall since records began in 1893 - 1st one was 2/1898. Nine of those events took place 2001-2009, and no other decade (meaning xx00 thru xx09) had more than 4, so that backs up ORH's comment. (None between 3/1993 and 2/2001, however.) Filtering out 4 with obvious mixing issues, nearly all the rest had ratios in the 9:1 to 13:1 range, and there's little apparent difference across the decades. If anything, the ratios have gotten a tad higher in recent decades, which might be attributed to measurement techique. There are exceptions; VD2007 had 23" of 7.5-to-1 snow with temps near 10 (one town east, I had 15.5", all snow at 8.6-to-1), while Jan. 1979 had 18" of 21:1 fluff with single-digit temps. Proviing...nothing?

Yesterday people were complaining that it was cold when we were outside for physics at 9am. I told them it was one of the warmest March days ever and they shouldn't complain at it being 59F and windy at 9am on 3/23...lol. Then I told them last year around this time we got snow and a week later we had a delay (from the 4/1 5" storm). They told me that it hadn't snowed in April since 1996 lol . (At least that means they have heard of the 4/1/97 storm?) This week was pretty nice though (girls definitely took advantage of this early heat haha)... nice preview of summer. Seriously, 850s up here today are cooler than past days, around 6-7C, and the surface is about 60F give or take with winds gusting to 30kts. People are bitching because it's too cold. Like seriously, you're in VT in late March. Anything over 40F is considered a win for warm weather lovers haha And yes, summer 2012 is anxiously awaited by many of my friends and myself

Unless you actually follow it closely (or semi-closely), most people are quite ignorant of past weather, and especially the dates of them. We actually had been on a bit of a dry April streak for snow before last year's 4/1 event....2010, 2009, 2008, 2005, and 2004 all had no measurable snow even though we average it about 2/3rds of the years. Still, I guess they have bad memories if they don't even recall the snow in 2006 or 2007 (you'd figure they at least remember one of the years as being semi-recent)....nevermind last year. Well even then, I can understand if you don't follow weather. But last year? I mean really? We were forecasted for 6-10" and got like 4-5". It's not like it was all overnight either...it was ripping that Thursday night around 6-7pm (3/31) although it wasn't accumulating much.

I'm not sure what year it was but there was a "brutal" cold winter while I was there and I remember that we had a really warm day in March when people had lounge chairs out and they were basking in the sun and no one had coats on because the sun was so strong. Back then the met lab was in Vail (I think it has since moved) and one way to get there was walking across the library roof past the theater & such and I remember remarking on all the people basking in the sun and then looking at the thermometer and it was in the 40s. Everything is relative I guess...

ORH_wxman
I could see a lot of AWTs handed out by us in the next couple of weeks. That thing on the end of the run almost does a May '77 track from north of the lakes SE to SNE. With so much blocky/cutoff flow, there's probably going to be some weenie solutions at times....but also generally poor model performance on individual vort maxes and such.
