Kevin Shaw
Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Monday, April 25, 2016 Monday was a sunny day, warmer day, particularly in the afternoon when we hit the 80° mark for the fourth time this month (previous days were on the First, the 18th and 19th). We had one more relatively cool overnight as temps dropped into the upper 40s, warmer than the previous night by about 4°. Tonight is warmer still, as at 3 AM the temperature is still above the 60° mark and the dew point temperature has crept up well into the 50s. We should see 60° dew points on Tuesday. Kevin Shaw
Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, April 26, 2016 Tuesday was a partly cloudy day, quite warm, particularly in the afternoon when we hit well above the 80° mark for the fifth time this month (previous days were on the First, the 18th, the 19th and yesterday). We probably will not hit another 80° day the rest of the month of April. The overnight low temperature only got down into the upper 50s, warmer than the previous night by more than 10°. Tonight is warmer still, as at 3:30 AM the temperature is in the mid 60s with the dew point at the 60° mark. Temps don't look to get any lower than the low 60s by sunrise on Wednesday. A busted forecast on Tuesday as we did not get any rain/storms. Wednesday should be cloudy and much cooler with high temperatures in the low 60s, then showers (50-70 POP) through Thursday, with highs around 60° on Thursday. A 40 POP for showers on Friday with highs in the upper 50s, lows in the upper 40s. Saturday should see a return of the sun with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 60s, lows in the upper 40s, then clouding up on Sunday with a 50 POP for showers, probably later in the day, with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the lower 50s on Sunday night with a 70 POP for showers. Radar is showing a ragged E-W line of scattered showers running through southern MD/SE Virginia, through central VA and into West Virginia, particularly western parts where the rain appears to be heavier at this time, coming east out of Ohio. This ragged line is south of me, and probably marks the delineation of the cold frontal boundary, though it is still warm here - but winds have picked up over the last hour from a northerly component, so cooler air should be advecting in to the area over the next several hours. UGH, that means the hot humid summer is just around the corner. I hope we can keep this cool, cloudy pattern we are in right now for as long as possible. Keeping the heat and humidity out of here for as long as possible is a great desire of mine. Sunday was another cloudy, cool day, with overnight and morning showers then a break till late evening just prior to my midnight observation when light rain showers developed again. The high temperature for the day was once again in the mid 50s, with the low around 50° in the early morning hours. Tonight the temperature is 53.9° at 3:20 AM, with 0.01" of rainfall since midnight according to my VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge. The temperature won't get much lower than that by sunrise, hovering around the 50° mark most likely once again. . More scattered showers (50 POP) at times (most likely occuring in the AM) with high temps in the upper 70s expected on Monday as some sun should filter the partly cloudy skies that should develop in the afternoon, Monday night cloudy with a 70 POP for showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with lows in the mid 50s, then mostly cloudy on Tuesday and the rest of the week with high temps in the mid-upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s with a 70 POP for showers on Tuesday, then a 30 POP on Wednesday, then a 40-50 POP for showers the rest of the week. We don't appear to be shaking this damp pattern anytime soon for any great length of time.
