The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread

Typhoon Tip

March 14th... snow drops have gone by, crocuses are going full tilt, daffodils coming up, tulips coming up, hostas just starting to emerge, various small shrubs with hints of new growth, bitten by a mosquito on the 13th, Black Bear chillin' in the yard early this morning, robins galore, a few peepers were heard last evening. All this is a little much for March 14th!

This wx is just amazing from a met standpoint. I don't really like it in March (not that it is bad, I would just prefer cold/snow forever)

But if you sit back and take a broad, long view of it...it is just "dumb founding". Incredible, jaw dropping, call it what you will.

Fire departments are gonna be busy.

Oh, and Matt Noyes spoke at my school yesterday. No one thought to tell me about it until today

:axe:

Folks, I'm not sure if there's any other way to describe it.

The 10 day period beginning this past Monday and lasting through next Thursday (at least) is without a doubt the longest duration, most impressive string of T Anoms - warm or cold - over a huge area that I have ever witnessed... north of Atlanta clear to the Canadian border and beyond is at least +15 - and in some cases +30+!!! - and this goes all the way west to the Continental Divide.

Just an absolute TIZZORCH.

I concur! you have integrity. Thanks.the bet is April 15 th, thanks Herb

No problem...what is the criteria that you guys are using? Are we talking just the leaf buds being out or are we talking full-sized leaves? I'm also assuming this includes trees, shrubs and other forms of perennial growth.

I've attached 3 pictures from the Woodford, VT Webcam from a time lapse project that I'm working on showing bare trees, leaves budding and full leaves. If the bet is for leaves fully out, I would think you're looking for #3, correct?

That's what I mentioned yesterday. Possibly the most anomalous pattern I've ever seen across the CONUS.

Not sure how many years in a row of this you need to be convinced..You'll come around..just remember when you are telling your kids about how when you were little..March used to be winter..make sure you reference that your charming, personable, highly knowledgable friend Kevin was the first to clone this concept. I may be dead and gone by that point, but please just let them know it was me and that I care.

As usual, your lack of climo understanding is clouding your judgment. When you are ballz deep in a March bomb..you'll be on your knees..kissing my wrist like Caesar.

The world /climate is changing..whether this is for good or just in our lifetime..who knows..but March never again will be winter as we knew it growing up. It's nice to see folks slowly coming around to this idea

Not sure if I am totally on the "Warm March Forever" bandwagon... I tend to argue the skeptic's perspective when it comes to AGW because it gets to the heart of the science behind the debate - as an aside, I do this even though I wholeheartedly support sustainable energy, less emissions, etc. ... those are sll good for the planet and our sustainability regardless of implications on AGW.

However, it is getting harder and harder to hold my ground in the climate debate - even though I know no event or warm spell means jack sh*t either way - it's tough to dismiss it outright.

/rant, feel free to move to CC...

MORCHY out there right now.

Spring in March doesn't preclude a freak snowstorm..just like spring in October doesn't either.as we just witnessed

So I don't get your point. March is not a month where only freak storms occur. We have had many Nina March where they tend to not be snowy. This started in 2008 when the Nina regime began. In March 2010 we had an El Nino, but because the -NAO was so strong..we were about 0.5C off from getting another Dec 1992. Pretty soon we will have Decembers that are more closer to normal or a bit below..and March will have more winter. Remember this post.
