There were pickup trucks out on the ice on indian lake last year at this time....now it is 100% open water

I saw a guy out on lake Ashmere tonight on the way home. The ice is still thick enough here but I wouldn't be out there. With all the run off springs can be energized and the ice can get scoured out from below. I've seen guys put planks from shore, across open water, to the ice that has pulled away.

I'm going with 4/61 as my analog.

April '61 was an epic winter pattern...it had 4 different snow events and there was snow cover until the 4th week of the month that year. Only 5 highs above 50F the first 3 weeks of the month and 0 days above 60F.

It's interesting because 60-61 had the epic mid-December through early February stretch with much of the NYC suburbs seeing close to 100" snowfall. The pattern broke down after the 2/4 storm dumped 18-24" across the metro area, so I'm surprised April was so great. I remember that 4/67 had some big snowfalls but didn't know 4/61 was awesome too. March was a dud in 1961.

Not here, about 2' for the month.

Horrible, you know why he did not post ryans stations.

The thing is, a good chunk of the CT shore viewers are in the New Haven area north to Hamden, Bridgeport and interior Fairfield county, and then New London county. So, it may be close to 70F just off the shore. I still wouldn't go that ballsy though.

Like HVN, BDR, and GON are as close as you can get to the water...many shore line people will be near 67-70F while the climo stations may be 62-65F or something.

I thought a Magnolia or maybe a Dogwood.

Definitely not a dogwood. Those have droopy, non-waxy leaves - and they start blooming/leafing out a little later in the season.

We've got one of those in our yard.

MattB65, does the tree ever bloom?

I'll look at the leaves more closely tomorrow and try to figure out what type of tree it is and I'll report back with what I find.

It is sad how much history people forget.

Are you referring to the never ending pattern of people thinking cold and snow is 2 weeks away or forgetting that even in a bad pattern it can snow in late spring?

If I went by this forum a day ago I'd have had my mittens and earmuffs ready for the festivities later Saturday. Instead I'll be above normal and the only place there will be ice is at the bottom of my glass.

First tree to put out some leaves happened today in my back yard (literally). Not sure what kind of tree it is but here are the pics to prove it. Incredible .. first leaves out on 3/13.

Its either a diseased cherry or magnolia, no flowers, its a sick tree for sure. Many times they are the first to leaf out and certainly the first to change in the fall.
