The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread

Recommended Posts

Warmest Marches on record for each site (departures are from the current 1981-2010 normal):

BOS:

1946: 47.2F (+8.3)

1945: 46.3F (+7.4)

1921: 46.2F (+7.3)

1977: 44.7F (+5.8)

ORH:

1945: 44.9F (+10.6)

1946: 44.4F (+10.1)

1921: 43.0F (+8.7)

2010: 41.1F (+6.8)

Farther north:

Farmington, Maine

1903: 37.6F (+9.4)

1902: 37.4F (+9.2)

2010: 37.24F (+9.1)

1945: 37.16F (+9.0)

CAR

1977: 32.3F (+7.8)

2010: 31.9F (+7.4)

1979: 31.8F (+7.3)

1958: 31.7F (+7.2)

CAR is running +3 so far (and had 0.9" new snow as of 4 PM), so I doubt they make top 4. It's a stretch for Farmington, too, as they're about +4 so far.

Edit: Forgot to add that N.Maine has a WWA posted, 4-6" for the St.John Valley region.

50F with strong sea breeze and fog bank settling here in while 70+ F in the interior, probably with blue skies. Enjoy the warmth, a sea breeze in March is a brutal reminder that warmth is very transient living along the ocean in New England.

If it were May I'd agree. It's early to mid March and still +4 to +8 in the muck and fog. I'd rather torch the ocean and turn it over now, come late April and May if we're in the same situation it won't be as bad.

Saturday doesn't look nearly as bad as people were making it out to be a day or two. I see the 12z Euro backed off some on the drop down cold.

Then he's probably got more snow than you do. I just checked out the Merge cam. -lol-

Maybe by next winter they'll let you back in OT, if God dies.

Hi Boz, I see you lurking in our thread. It would be great to be back in OT as I'm sure it's been boring without evil me to rail against. Keep your fingers crossed!! Something for you to look forward to!!

Why do you want the warmth to be over so badly?

Haha I love your disconnect between a met talking about forecasting and patterns and you take it as him wanting it. He may very well want it to flip but remember some folks forecast or discuss what may happen, not just what they want to happen.

March 1945 seems to be a widespread and multiple-day anomalously warm month for much of Northeast... And interestingly also depicted anomalous cold over Russia / eastern Europe / western Middle East (snow in Israel last week).

I post this map in case people can identify other parallels, which wouldn't be surprising if the underlying mechanisms are the same.

We have a real shot if we can get the trough in here for like March 27-April 10. If it was mid April even I would have Kevin's attitude.

It's looking that way, but if this was winter we'd probably be saying to be wary of a delay with the cold. There's still below normal heights out west and up into AK through d15, but yeah, there's been some consistency with getting the cold back in here around the 25th. I believe a few days ago it was around the 23rd and it got pushed back a couple of days though. I wouldn't mind a little last hurrah event that drops 3-6" and pushes me near normal on the season. It's not like it will hang around long anyways.

I mean don't get me wrong...I'm enjoying this right now. I'm the burly guy with arms hanging out the window. Also, we probably will warm up again at some point in April, if we do cool down for a couple of weeks or so.

However, I just want one last wintry shot..even if it's a sloppy 2". Just one last shot.

Read my last post. I've excepted if that was it for snow, but it's 3/13. This will come to an end. Since we will cool off..I wouldn't mind one last chance. If not...so be it. No big deal considering I never had a winter.

The warm weather is nice to have if we are going to have a ridge nearby...id take it over BDF anyday....but I'd like to see us get another event or two in here if we are oging to get a trough in the region which it looks like we will by the end of the month....its either a wet snow event or murky 43F weather or sunny and 49-53F....ill take snow over the other two any day.

Its not like its the choice between snow and 70F when we have a trough over the northeast.

You summed it up. What good is 50F with a 30kt nw wind.

Well that's hanging tough. Kind of looks like the stuff I saw up north.

This is the worst time of year except that it's a month+ early. There is nothing more depressing than the drip of melting snow. Drip drip drip. It's like Chinese water torture. Thank god Ullr will deliver us from this evil soon.
