Warmest Marches on record for each site (departures are from the current 1981-2010 normal):

BOS:

1946: 47.2F (+8.3)

1945: 46.3F (+7.4)

1921: 46.2F (+7.3)

1977: 44.7F (+5.8)

ORH:

1945: 44.9F (+10.6)

1946: 44.4F (+10.1)

1921: 43.0F (+8.7)

2010: 41.1F (+6.8)

I'm not sure if we could go all the way...especially if we cool down after the 24th..but 2012 will probably replace some of those figures.

The foliage has been acting bizarre ever since that October snow last year. Some of the shrubbery up at Barre Falls recreational park were also sprouting leaves when the weather turned back mild prior to Thanks Giving - never saw that before.

The Sugar Maples that took all that damage tried also to bud out in 2 weeks after that storm... I think something about the shock of that event ...I dunno, "fooled" some of the flora. Now, with the climate in chaos with this ...pretty much non-existent March.

After being fully stripped of leaves by an August 30 hailstorm (in 2007), the aspen a few miles from MBY attempted to set a new crop of leaves in late Sept/Oct. Most of those trees have died, along with some of the pines, and a lot of the survivors look like bottlebrushes with epicormic branches.

3 PM readings in Maine: SFM, 70 and M.Sunny; FVE, 28 with +SN, 1/4 mile vis. Of course, even N.Maine is progged to get the +20 departures by the weekend.

Thanks, and I looked it up, and FEB 1978 was the biggest ever for Boston.

Techincally, the President's day Storm in Feb 2003 was, but in reality..it wasn't. The blizzard of '78 was likely the biggest storm, but because of measuring techniques..The Presidents Day storm in 2003 beat it out.

Presidents Day 2003 was big up in New England?

I always thought it was more of a Mid-Atlantic storm

Of coarse I missed it while i was on vacation.

It's over after the 25th.

It's looking that way, but if this was winter we'd probably be saying to be wary of a delay with the cold. There's still below normal heights out west and up into AK through d15, but yeah, there's been some consistency with getting the cold back in here around the 25th. I believe a few days ago it was around the 23rd and it got pushed back a couple of days though. I wouldn't mind a little last hurrah event that drops 3-6" and pushes me near normal on the season. It's not like it will hang around long anyways.
