The unofficial official absurdly warm for March thread

My bad I guess. I interpreted as CT/MA b/c Scooter has been making fun of people all week for calling for Leaf out in a few weeks.

And he said next week not next month? So I don't where you're getting Mid April from. But whatever haha...this is a stupid argument.

All I'm saying is that leaf out in SNE aside from a few crazy bushes won't happen April 1st. If that happens, then the Mayan proficies will come true.

And yes I was sarcastic.

That's all I was trying to get across. The way he made it sound he was saying leaf out in CT/NY by next week. That won't happen either besides some budding. I do agree it could be early this year, but it looks like late March could be pretty cold.

To me the real start of leaf out is when the forsythia bushes open. As far as I can tell that is happening up to about Maryland right now. By the end of this week I would guess that would push north into Conn. Once forsythia open everything follows very rapidly. (assuming continuing warm temperatures)

Went hiking in the woods at Monument Mountain in Great Barrington today with Diane (thebigrombalski) and we spotted moths. Actually, I'm not sure if they were butterflies or moths, but either way, I've never seen these guys out before April let alone March 12. Absolutely crazy stuff. I reached 68° F for a high here. There are also a few little gnats too, but not too bad. In about a week things will be swarming.

Interesting... I just noticed that 18z NAM's regional LI is down to -1 tomorrow during max heating. So I went back and the 12z was actually even a tad lower. CINs too high and CAPE a bit too low, but still ...both runs try to put out some convective drops.

Yup!!!

I think between eastern NY/western MA/western CT we see about 3 small hail reports and maybe 2-3 wind damage reports.

Topped out at 67 here. Killed my first MOSQUITO of the year today. :axe:

Those bugs might not be mosquitoes. There is an insect out there that looks Iike one, but pretty sure it's something other than a mosquito. They hatch early.

They were definitely mosquitos here. Several landed and bit me this evening while I was outside.

Not something that I recall seeing in March before, but I may be wrong. No other signs of spring here though. My eye is on the forsythia's for a real harbinger of things to come.

It was funny seeing ice and snow and then killing a few mosquitos while pumping sap for what will probably be the last time!

Yeah kind of looks like that, although I've never seem it up close like that. I find it hard to believe mosquitoes would be out before peepers, but what do I know.

Yeah those are Cranes...they look exactly like mosquitoes but they aren't. Actually I think they are male mosquitoes and they don't bite...only the females bite...although it could be the other way around.
