What is he doing to his skis?

All my years of skiing, I never heard the term "skin" used. I guess that means I was not "extreme".

No, skins are a back country ski component. Often called climbing skins they are a type of laminate that adhere to the bottom of your skis and usually clip to the tip and tail to provide traction for climbing up inclines. They sort of turn your ski into a snow shoe for getting up high in the back country and then you peel them off for your downhill descent. They are necessary for steeper ascents (real steep requires snow shoes with skis strapped to your pack) but for slight to moderate climbing grip wax will do just fine. You would only use skins for back country telemark skis set ups or for randonee (girly-man) back country bindings.

Jeezus, don't even start with that.

That's actually not too far ahead of schedule for the cherry blossoms though.

We need get you a real New England January when you're back next year. lol

I would definitely appreciate that... When I'm home in June/May I wouldn't complain about east wind and mist... you guys are spoiled with the cool weather

Backdoor cancel on this latest Euro run for next week. 60s and 70s every day. The ens continue it through the end of the run (d15 and beyond). I'm not sure I've seen a stretch like this modeled in April before...nevermind mid March.

Yeah nice to see that going away....at least for now anyways. Meanwhile, people down this way will be gusting over 50 today.

Yeah...maybe even I can hit a 30mph gust up here. The NAM has Tds over 50F today...those wet bulbs with sun will annihilate the snow. I'm curious to see what is left by tonight.
