What is he doing to his skis?

All my years of skiing, I never heard the term "skin" used. I guess that means I was not "extreme".

I know. I have never done it.

Hardcore people (can't think of any...) do it.

You attach a stretchy material that prevents backsliding and you chuff your way up the trail like a x-c skier.

Not sure if it can be done with regular boots/bindings, though. I think you need the AT rigs (all-terrain?) like Petey uses

Lundberg says it's time for the summer haircut for MRG

No matter how you slice it, there's a lot of warm air flooding the country right now, and despite the brief cool down late this week into the start of the weekend, it's the proverbial oasis of cold in that vast ocean of warmth. Spring is here, and it is here to stay. Next week we could be looking at widespread 70s during the second half of the week from the Plains to the East. Not bad approaching St. Patrick's Day!

Yeah +12C at 850 near the southern tip of Hudson Bay. It will be interesting to see how far east this makes it. It's not very easy for those warm plumes to climb the ridge and head east this time of year. However, even a seabreeze this time of year isn't all that bad, so long as the wind is under 10-15 kts.

Tell me about it!

D7 Euro at 18C over Nebraska at 850mb... before March 15!!

I remember 1998 ... up at UML. March 29, 30 and 31: 89, 91, and 90F where the highs those three days in the Merrimack Valley.

Incredible backdoor came slicing down in the evening of the 31st and knocked it back 30F in 10 minutes ...someodd ludicrousness, then the next day at noon, April 1, the cruel Fool's joke of it being 48 and drizzly set in.

I think it even snowed in April that year, too - smack in the face flakes, only, though.

Anyway, if there were ever a year that is a candidate for a wack-job March run-in with heat, this would seemingly be uniquely qualified.

In pre-synthetics days (often pre-lift days as well), hardcore skiers used sealskin covers for climbing. They had the old beartrp cable bindings, the ones that released at the knee.
