March 2012........Happy Sping

Pete will hold his snowpack until early April, even Wills could last a while its cement, happens every year, every spring the same thing over and over and over. The south coast is going to green up over the next two weeks and Pete will show us dirty brown crusty snow until April 10th. ITs the beauty of the region, the diversity, Freak will post pics of how good the skiing is on Mansfield on May 4th while I am naked at the beach watching eye candy behind my Oaklies.

Viva la Sping

Yea that's about right for Wachusett.

Wachusett will be open April 1 - it might be only a couple of sucky mud trails, but they will be open.

What they have now is pretty solid, edge to edge. The next week might impinge on that a bit, but...

They have the pond-skimming already scheduled for April 1. Last year I skied there April 3 and they were 100% open, deep coverage.

This year, not so much

I also think that the thread could have been moved to OT rather than locked. What the OP said was off the wall but the responses stimulated the discussion and I feel the thread had intellectual value for those here who wished to learn about the subject.

Just enjoying the last true winter night here...23F with about 4" of snow remaining. I was walking back from doing some homework help in the dorms last night and was thinking how beautiful the moonlit, snow-covered landscape was as well as enjoying the refreshing qualities of the arctic air. Might be a long time before we see that again.

Just read the thread. Stifling expression and opinions seems to be becoming a cornerstone here at AMwx. While the original post was misguided at best, it did serve as a catalyst for an interesting discussion. It disturbs me how quickly censorship is employed here. The free expression of thoughts and ideas is something to be cultivated. The expression of objectionable ideas is part of the intellectual process. I found nothing in the original post that I agreed with but , as you aptly pointed out, the discussion that followed had value. The thread should not have been locked, it was doing no harm, in fact it was helping to illuminate just how valuable the NWS is to all of us. Silencing of voices you disagree with is the hallmark of totalitarianism and it has no place in America.

LOL.... I'm not sure you comprehend how long man made glacial snow sticks around. We were in a far worse situation in 2010. Resorts make key stockpiles just for that reason. It all depends on on overnight lows...that's the kicker. Plus NNE will have some cold periods even if they are short...that bottom few feet will be very hard to melt.

Yeah, while SNE bolts into the 60s, Mansfield may get to 45F...with nights certainly getting back 25-30F. It'll be a dry heat too, so I'm not worrying about any snow eating fog or high Td's or anything.

Meanwhile 18.4F here. Winter still. Going 47F here for tomorrow with bright sunshine...tomorrow my snowpack will be cut in half in the sun, with bare spots likely.

Back in the day Killington skied to mid june. Locals are annoyed now because the mountain closes the first weekend in may no matter what. It's a bean counter decision. We hike to ski into late May still these days. This year will be no different. In fact all the freeze thaw cycles have created some of the most glacial base I've ever seen. Man made trails will be skiable long after most people think skiing is over.

Currently 24/14 imby w/ a solid 4"+ outside of the direct sun areas. Yeah might not get this cold again until next winter but we'll see. It will be tough w/o snow cover later in the month to radiate down below the 20's.

I'm guessing we'll get below freezing in elevated valley locations every night this week but the days look torchy.

I'm going to Berkshire East thursday morning for the first "spring turns" of the season.

For Metherb. The sap is flowing.

Nice! I started tapping back on February 11th and again the following week. It was a little early for us, but we start a week or two earlier than you guys. I run mostly the same kind of tubing from about 600 trees.

I hope everyone can make it to a sugarhouse in the next few weeks....a lot of hard work goes into making a great product! Also remember that like wine, maple syrup tastes different depending on where you are. CT maple syrup is the best though! :D

CT syrup ... pfffft!!

Maine Maple Sunday is 3/25, and I have a sugarhouse a mile or so up the road that I'll be visiting. A rite of sping.

Fall can be boring, but it's the change of seasons which I love. The wx usually is nice, first crisp arrival of colder air..etc. Gets us in the mood for winter (except this year). I'm sure Joe and others think we're being negative, but Spring is like an 8-10 week tease of warm and cold combined with boredom.

Spring sucks as does Fall in SNE. Give me 7 months of winter and 5 months of full summer and I'd be happy. I know some hate it but I love hot summer wx.....reminds me of carefree summer days as a child. Snow brings me directly back and it will always be my first wx love. But dank, cool wx is useless to me.

But at least Fall isn't dank around here. Spring just blows.

Can a lawyer on here PM me please?>

My advice: Take pictures of everything in your place as it is now. Detailed ones. Just in case you come home and things are different than when you left, you will be able to account for everything and have plenty of recollection as well as evidence.

Before buying this home I was a longtime renter, and had good landlords and bad ones like everyone else...the worst ones will take chances and assume you don't know your rights, or you are a willing victim...stick it to them the hardest.

P.S. I would have shot the man standing in your living room, without hesitating.

Good luck. There's a small in-law apt here empty if you are ever desparate, I've been there too. lol
