May is actually the best time to hang out in the Northampton/Amherst area. Lots of action. Back when I was single ..........

speaking from experience, being a current resident- May's when things empty out. a good thing if you ask me. still plenty going on- grad students around, raucous undergrad scene dies out. prime time for those who prefer something other than the cheap-beer-in-a-solo-cup scene... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well Graduation is in May and that's when all the best parties seemed to happen. I played in a band and we were always rocking in April and May. It is nice when the students clear out. In May the weather starts to get pleasant. 60's and 70's and sunny while Scooter shivers in 40* sheet drizzle.

Oh nice. Is that where you took uo some sort of contruction or business management?

LOL, try a Literary Studies major with a minor in 17th century poetry and prose, I thought I'd be an english professor. I went to a Waldorf school before college and learned carpentry/cabinetmaking from some old German craftsmen as part of the overall curriculum. I found that I could make more money doing that work than I could as a teacher/junior professor. The rest is history.

Anything with woodworking you can do well in. Obviously, you found your niche.

Sort of like his magical glen...Pete is mysterious as well. Never see pics of the wife and kids...yet claims to have one. He's like Oprah Winfrey or better yet..David Letterman, hiding his wife and kids.

I don't like putting pics of the wife or kids up. I don't do facebook either.

Dude, you're like the kiss of death for snow. 29/29 here with little loss of snow today.

I don't know how you hold onto the snowpack so much better than I do...we're at similar elevations, and I have latitude on you. I assume being immediately east of the crest of the Berkshires helps some, but there's been a marked difference in coverage between the two of us this winter. Amazing that we're at 38F and you're sitting at 29F, ridiculous difference considering the Monadnocks is often seen as the coldest part of this region. It's drip drip drip out there...we're going to lose a bunch more tonight, and the warmth later in the week will finish us off for sure.

Warm front and associated fog is wreaking havoc on the snowpack here in the Monadnocks. It's amazing how quickly snow melts once the fog rolls in.

38/36

I was just thinking the same thing after taking a measurement of snow otg. Down to 7.5" the sleet after the snow ended last night must've compacted it quite a bit then add that to the rain today and a high of 41.8 I lost about 4.5" in one day. If it stays cloudy tomorrow should be able to freeze it into a solid snowpack with temps in the low to mid teens Sunday and Monday nights.

Snow is already refrozen tonight with a crust on top and temps in the upper 20's not really expecting to lose any more tonight.

Nate, I'm at 32.4F south of the border. Driveway and walkway (and roads into Gardner) starting to ice up.

Why have I been cooler than you? You have a higher el, more lat, but lately your area has been warmer.

Not bragging, because that area usually skunks mine in snow. For some reason, whenever I see you post temps, I'm a bit below.

Weird

Unique topography here, very craggy, holds the cold exceedingly well. I haven't seen my lawn for a couple months now.

I think some of it may have to do with the protection from SW winds that the higher terrain around Quabbin Reservoir gives you. You've got a little bit more terrain protection than Rindge, which is elevated but doesn't have any higher mountains blocking warmth from the south/southwest. We've seen this a lot on southerly and southwesterly flow events this winter..it gets extremely mild here while you and Pete stay cold. It's the same reason why the Adirondacks (SLK for example) hold the cold very well...the bowl-shaped nature of the mountains prevents warm air intrusions from the S/SW. I see that FIT is at 31/29 right now while I'm stuck at 37F with much higher dewpoints.

That's basically it. I'm tucked in right against the crest. The west side will torch while we can stay cold. They do better on the NW flow upslope events but being so close to the crest I still get good spillover snows. It's a good trade off.
