Twitter abuzz with everyone upping snow totals.

WHDH is really going to look bad on this one IMO calling for no accumulations and going all in on it both last night and this morning. I could see boston getting more than their C-2"pretty quickly this evening rush hour before the heaviest snow hits with wave 2.

We're already over their call for 0" on the torching easterly flow from last night. Big big bust incoming for Pete B.

We're already over their call for 0" on the torching easterly flow from last night. Big big bust incoming for Pete B.

Here's some calls from Dylan and Pete B on their blog...

The Immediate Coast:

Light snow starts to fall between 2-4pm. Winds will be out of the NE at 10-20 mph and the water temperature is around 40°. That NE wind will drag a mild marine layer on shore and any snow should turn to rain by 6pm, keeping snowfall totals to a coating at best.

Coastal areas, but inland a bit:

Light snow starts around 2-4pm and stays as snow through the evening commute. It'll start to mix with then turn to rain between 12-3am Thursday. Up to 2" is possible, but then gets washed away.

Along and south of the Pike, along and outside 128:

Light snow starts around 2-4pm and stay as snow through about 3am Thursday. It'll start to mix with then change to rain through the Thursday morning commute. It'll then turn back to snow after 1pm Thursday. We'll see about 2-5" of snow in this area, but that's the combination of the front side and back side of the storm...some will get washed away with the rainy period in the middle. Does that make sense?

Two overwhelming factors in this storm: the ocean water temperature (40) and the wind direction (east). Those two elements tell me this is an elevation storm: the higher up you live, the better your chances for seeing - and keeping - snow. Read: Worcester County.

Timeline on this storm? Well, that's a good question. First flakes and drops will fall between 2 and 4 tomorrow, then taper off through the evening. Later at night, a second surge of precip. will move through, but by that time, the east wind will be singing and the upper atmosphere begins to warm. Read: snow accumulation tapers too.

When it snows the weenie blooms in all. Speaking of which last Summer I put in a couple hundred Tulips bulbs. Squirrels took there toll, I was thinking alot where stolen. With all this warm weather lately I'm looking at my whole flowerbed (overkill) Tulip shoots end to end sprouting up.

Snowgrowth definately improving. Downstream Severe translating into White Gold.

Bookends winter.

Ok I'm a Snow Weenie...I admit! Now that I got that out of the way....I am a bit preplexed that Gray is not putting us in the WSWarning here in Central Maine..like WTF....do they freaken realize that once the secondary gets going..were going to pick up alot more then 4-8 here in the Augusta area...And Pete Bouchard...why are you so gun shy about totals...all snow event...not like we have a powerful SE wind with this event...I could see that if it was a different event..but your pouring a ton of cold air into this event..thermal temps are not there to support rain in Boston...Pete used to be a good met..but lately..I am wondering? Do you think I just sit around all day and dream about weenie snow storms??? really?

I think most folks from BOS /ORH south will see sleet tonight for a time when precip lightens..shouldn't be a surprise to anyone really

Its a big deal though how deep the warm layer is when the 2nd round comes in...that is heavy precip. If the warm layer is deep enough, then it won't get cooled out as quick...which would mean a pelt-fest for those in that zone.

i'm in that band running just to the north of you in andover and it has snowed light/moderate for quite a bit. getting very wintry lookin outside! on radar you can see the high to the north doing its job keeping the warm air at bay. for the last 2 hours very little progress has been made up the seacoast into maine. fun to watch the battle. i was thinking today about how hard it is to get all the parameters right to yield a heavy snowfall given the setup. talk about fine tuning!

I'm in that band right over BOS extending into the ocean SE and clipping the S Coast and the outer Cape above the elbow.

no doubt my area is benefiting from the compression and lift being caused by the high making its stand. that band has really blossomed over the past hour.

This is going to be very wet. Sticking to everything right now, except roads. It's developed that slushy foundation on the trees and ground and sticking to that.

31F here in Westborough... No sticking to the roads, but not trouble sticking to everything else. Hasn't snowed very hard here yet - had 3/4 mile snow for small period but not we are in a meso no-snow band. 31 on January 29 is a whole lot different than 31 on Feb 29 during the daylight hours. After dark and it probably dries out some.

Rad over all doesn't appear impressive to me with this "front end" thing.. .shredded, with some moderate bands here and there, others getting very little. Would like to see a solid 3 level green spanning more than the width of a township or 2, lest this looks like a GFS QPF/NAM right about cold thing.

Yeah this first band wasn't really for us, esp BOS north. The forcing weakens big time.
