if the temperature in Central Park stays below 50 today it will not be the warmest March on record...With a low of 38 there this morning they need a high of 50 to bring the March average to 51.1 tying the record...The driest March was washed away this morning...

not going to make it to 50 today the temp at central park at noon was 41 and no clearing this afternoon so 2 records denied today. One thing is looking more certain April is not going to have any top 10 high temp records with the trough in the east being the dominant feature through mid month ....

Euro has a major heat ridge in its medium and long range.

Even though March 2012 will rank as the 2nd warmest March on record, the February-March 2012 period will be, by far, the warmest February-March timeframe on record. It should be no surprise that flowers burst into bloom far earlier than is typical. I'll post some statistics on the February-March period tonight or tomorrow, once the March data is in.

Two key analogs that I came up with (1976 and 2009) featured a dramatic shift to much warmer conditions in the second half of April.

we could be on the way to the warmest year ever...January to March could be the warmest also...I hope we don't see that...I'm hoping the Summer doesn't have record heat...

12z EURO says what heat ridge? With the MJO forecast to go into phase 8, and then possibly 1 or 2 down the road, Id suspect the models will have major issues with it. However, if it does go to these phases, then Id suspect more troughing over the eastern US over the heat ridge the Euro had last night.

I hope we don't have record heat as well. But I don't want a cool summer either. Normal would be just fine with me.
